WEAVERS' SOCIETY OF ANDERSTON.
Instituted 1738.

Taylor, writer, clerk. The object of this society is to
afford charitable aid to such of its members and their
widows as may be reduced to destitute circumstances.
The fee or entry-money payable by a son or son-in-
law of a member, or by an apprentice indentured to
a member (a weaver by trade), is £2 2s., and the
entrance fee payable by all others is £3 3s., to which
entry-moneys is added one shilling per £1 Is. for
every year the member is above 30 years of age at
the date of admission. Members must not be under
the age of 14 when admitted, nor above the age of
45, and must be resident in the district formerly
known as the burgh of Anderson, or neighbourhood
thereof.

M'ALPINE'S MORTIFICATION.
Founded in 1811 by Mrs. M'Alpine, who con-
veyed to trustees her property for the maintenance
of poor men and women of the description given in
her will — the formerly receiving annually £10, and
the latter £5. The trustees are, the Deacon Con-
vener and the Ministers of eight of the Established
Churches.

MISSION COAST HOME, SALTCOATS.
The object of this institution is to afford a gratuit-
ous home at the sea side for two or three weeks to
the poor in Glasgow who have been sick, in order to
promote their convalescence. The full value of the
income is exhausted on the inmates, and no expense
incurred either in management or collecting sub-
scriptions, which may be handed in London to T.

The members of this society (after six months'
probation), are entitled to 10s. per week, during
sickness, for first six months; 7s. 6d. per week for
next six months, and 5s. per week thereafter. Medi-
cal attendance and medicine free. At the death of
a member, £10 is paid as funeral money to the
nearest relative, and £5 at member's wife's death.
Yearly contribution according to age, from £1 0s.
There are other six Lodges of the Order in Glasgow
District ; the number of members is upwards of 1400.
MASTER HOSIERS.
Instituted in the year 1743, and incorporated by
Seal of Cause from the Magistrates and Town Coun-
cil of Glasgow, 6th May, 1746. The society gives
pecuniary aid to reduced stocking-makers, stocking-
makers' widows, and other indigent persons con-
nected with the trade. Entry-money £1 Is., which
(upon a recommendation approved of by the society)

MITCHELL'S MORTIFICATION.
The Lord Provost and Magistrates, patrons.
This charitable fund was bequeathed by W.
Mitchell, a native of Glasgow, who died in London,
1729. The patronage is now vested in the Magis-
trates of Glasgow. The annual interest, amounting
to £113 16s. 4d., is disbursed in sums not exceeding
£10 to four old decaj-ed men, two widows, and two
unmarried females of the merchant rank, and in
sums not exceeding £5 lis. to three old decayed
men, three widows, and one unmarried female of the
trades rank.
