CHARITABLE AND FRIENDLY INSTITUTIONS.
GRAHAM CHARITABLE.
This society was instituted in the year 1759, and
was incorporated by seal of cause from the Magis-
trates and Town Council of Glasgow, upon the 2nd
day of January, 1770. None are eligible as members
of the society except persons of the name of Graham
and their descendants, or those married to individuals
of that name or their descendants. The entry-money
to strangers is £5 5s., and to sons and other lineal
descendants and sons-in-law of members, £3 3s.

PERTHSHIRE CHARITABLE.
Instituted 22nd Dec, 1835.
The principal object of this society, the qualifica-
tion for membership of which consists of a small sum
of entry-money, is to afford relief to persons in in-
digent circumstances, natives or widows of natives
of Perthshire, and their children resident in Glasgow
and the neighbourhood, or passing through the city,
unexpectedly falling into distress.

Objects — To assist young men from Skye in pro-
curing employment in Glasgow, the affording of
temporary relief to necessitous natives of the island,
the encouragement of education by means of prizes
sent to the schools, &c.
SCOTCH EPISCOPAL FRIENDLY SOCIETY.
Instituted 1793.
The whole purposes of this society are to establish
a fund primarily and permanently for the relief of
the widows and orphans of the clergy, and con-
tingently for the relief of such of the members as,
from advanced age or other infirmity, are unable to
perform their official duties. Widows receive £40
a year for life, and failing these the orphans £4.00
in slump.
Legacies and donations can be given through the
Bishop, Dean, or Synod Clerk of the Diocese of
Glasgow ; or through members of the society in Glas-
gow, the Rev. Dr. Gordon, or the Rev. J. W. Reid.

BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.

This society was established for the purpose of
supplying, in some measure, the necessities, and
contributing towards the relief of distressed natives
and descendants of natives of the northern counties
of Scotland. A contribution of £4 4s. constitutes
membership ; the payment of which may be extended
over the first four years after admission, at the rate
of £1 Is. per annum.
WIDOWS' FRIEND SOCIETY.
Instituted 1856, for the special benefit of destitute
Christian widows' in Glasgow. The object of the
society is the relief of destitute Christian widows, in
such a way as may most conduce to their temporal
benefit. For the carrying out of this object the
society shall have principally in view the advance of
such sums, in the shape of loan, as may be found
necessary to assist in providing a permanent means
of support; although, in very necessitous circum-
stances, an immediate sum may be paid over in the
way of a donation.

SCOTTISH EPISCOPAL CHURCH SOCIETY.
The Diocesan Association of Glasgow and Gallo-
way, consisting of the Bishop, Instituted Clergy,
and Lay Delegates from the various congregations,
meets annually after the Synod, in August. The
society's objects are — 1. To provide a fund for aged
or infirm clergymen, and general aid for congrega-
tions struggling with pecuniary difficulties ; 2. To
assist candidates for the ministry; 3. To provide
schoolmasters, books, and tracts for the poor; i. To
assist diocesan libraries ; 5. To make up all clerical
stipends to £150 a year.
THE JOURNEYMEN GOLDSMITHS'
FRIENDLY SOCIETY.
Instituted in 1825.
This society has for its object the relief of its
members who may be incapable of attending to their
business through illness, &c, and for securing at
death a payment for funeral expenses; the society
now comprises 100 members, and has a capital of
£770. The meetings of the society are held in 26
Glassford Street, on the evenings of the first Monday
in February, May, August, and November.
