PUBLIC CONVEYANCES.
Fares hy Distance. — When a party not exceeding
two grown-up persons, and â– without any luggage
other than a carpet bag, or tbs like, enters a car-
riage at a stand (not being one of the Railway
Stations), or when driving along disengaged, they
shall be driven half a mile, or any less distance, for
Sixpence, and if they return, they shall pay another
Sixpence.
The following Fares to be allowed for distances
above half a mile, viz. : —
I. Not exceeding a mile and a half: —
For a party of not more than three grown-up s. d.
persons, 10
For each additional grown-up person, ..06
II. Exceeding a mile and a half: —
For a party of not more than four grovm-up
persons for any distance exceeding a mile
and a half, and not exceeding two miles, . 1 6
For each additional grown-up person for the
whole length of the journey, 6
For each additional half mile or part thereof, 6
These rates to include going from the nearest Stand
to the hirer's residence, and waiting ten minutes ;
but if detained more than ten minutes, Sixpence
to be allowed for each additional fifteen minutes,
or part thereof.
The fare for any distance beyond five miles to be
the subject of special agreement.
Should the driver require to go more than three
hundred yards from the yard or stand where the
carriage is taken to the hirer's residence, there will
be a charge of Sixpence extra.
Half-fare returning, which the hirer shall have the
option of doing.
When parties return, and the fare going is One
Shilling, the carriage shall wait ten minutes without
any charge for waiting; when One Shilling and
Sixpence, fifteen minutes ; when Two Shillings and
upwards, twenty minutes. If the carriage be de-
tained longer, a charge shall be allowed for waiting,
at the rate of Sixpence for every iifteen minutes, or
part thereof, commencing at the period when the free
waiting expires.
When a carriage is called, but not used, a charge
of Sixpence shall be allowed, if the place to which
it is called be under half a mile from the nearest
Stand, and One Shilling if beyond that.
Fare by Time. — For shopping, making calls, and
the like, where the driving is not continuous, the
charge shall be One Shilling for the first half hour,
and Sixpence fur every additional quarter of an hour,
or part thereof.
For an airing in the country, not exceeding five
miles from the General Post Office, and returning
either by the same or a different road, the rate shall
be Sixpence for every ten minutes, and tlie rate of
driving shall be at least six miles an hour, unless the
hirer wishes a slower pace.
Whether the Fares are by Distance or hy Time. —
The hirer pays tolls.
If there be more than three grown-up persons
driven, besides the Sixpence extra allowed for each
additional grown-up person, Sixpence to be paid for
each two children above six and under twelve years
of age, for the whole journey. No charge for one
child above six, or children under six.
No charge for luggage unless it exceeds 100 lbs.
weight, when not more than three persona are carried,
or 75 lbs. whea more than three, and in no case
shall the charge exceed Sixpence. The driver to
assist in loading and unloading in all cases when
required, without any extra charge.
From twelve at night till two in the morning, fare
and half shall be exigible ; from two till five morn-
ning, double fare ; after five, ordinary fare.
No charge for drivers.
Fares may be withheld. — Any party shall be en-
titled to withhold payment of the fare: —
1st. When the name and the number are not
painted outside the carriage, or when t'nere
is no plate inside, in terms of Article Fourth
of these By-Laws.
2nd. When the Reference Ticket is not given
on demand.
3rd. When the By-Laws and Table of Fares
are not shown on demand.
4th. When an overcharge is made.
Penalties. — Any person contravening anj' one of
these By-Laws shall be liable in a penalty not ex-
ceeding 40s.
