HOUSE OF SHELTER FOR FEMALES.
■4 Hill Street, Garnet Hill.
The " Shelter" ^vas instituted in 1850 ; its object
being to provide a'home for females, on their libera-
tion from prison, who are desirous to reform and to
support themselves by honest industrj-. The average
number of inmates in the "Shelter" is about forty.
They are employed in needle work, the institution
receiving the proceeds of their labour, in return for
which the inmates are lodged, fed, and clothed.

Established 1859.
The object of the society is to afford relief to
members who may be rendered incapable of attending
to business by disease, accident, or infirmity, and for
securing a reversionary payment at death. The
meetings are held on the first Tiiursday of each
month, at 8 p.m., in Angus' Temperance Hotel, 127

This society was instituted in 1780. The object
of the society is to afford pecuniary aid to such of its
members or their widows as may be in destitute
circumstances. Any person who has been a deacon
of one of the incorporations of the citj'-, or a preses
of a charitable societj', is qualified for membership.
The entrj'-money is only £1 Is. 6d., and no other
