There are four separate and distinct Divisions of the Bath Buildings, each having
separate and exclusive Entrances for Male and Female, and for First and Second Class
Bathers.
As a means of preserving, and even restoring health, and of refreshing and invigorat-
ing the body — especially in cases of fatigue — the use of the Tepid, Warm, or Hot Bath
is most beneficial.
With the view of dispelling fears which many entertain of catching cold from Warm
Bathing, attention is solicited to the subjoined copy of a Medical Certificate, signed by
awards of One Hundred and Forty of the most Eminent of the Profession in London :
" It has been stated to us that many labouring men and women in London fear that
the use of the Warm Bath might make them liable to take cold, and we have been re-
quested, on behalf of the Committee for promoting the Establishment of Baths and
Wash-Houses for the Labouring Classes, to express our opinion on the subject.
" We, the undersigned Physicians and Surgeons, therefore hereby certify, that no fear
need be felt of the moderate use of the Warm Bath making the bathers liable to take
cold. On the contrary, we strongly recommend the general establishment and use of
Public Baths, Warm and Cold, and Wash-Houses, from our conviction of the great
good of a clean and healthy skin, and clean clothing, to the health of the whole body.
" We are of opinion that, if London were fully supplied with Public Baths, Warm
and Cold, and Wash-Houses, and they were properly made use of, the amount and
severity of disease, and the number of deaths, would be materially diminished."
