No Porter .sluiU ply on the Q,uay without being in possession of a copy of the
Harbour Regulations, and a small Plan of the City, having the distance of eacli
•juarter of a mile from the Steamboat Quay marked thereon, and which he slia'.l
exhibit, along with tiie Harbour Regulations and Table of Fares, when require I,
under a penalty not exceeding £5 for each offence.

CO ACHES AND OTHER CARRIAGES.
At Glasgow, the twenty-ninth day of March, eighteen Inmdred and forty-five. —
The Magistrates of Glasgow being convened, did, and do- here}5y, in virtue of tlie
IDlst Section of the Act for Regulating the Police of the said City, enact and
ordain the following Bye-Laws for Butter Regulating Ilackney-Coaches and
»jlher Carriages plying for hire within the limits of the said Act : — ■
1. Public Stands appointed, and Number of Carriages cdlowcd to he on Stand's-
at one time. — In addition to the respective coach-houses or stable-yards of the
Owners of such Carriages, the following places are hereby appointed Public
Stands ; and no more than the following number of Carriages shall bo allowed to
be placed on any of the Stands at one time, unless by authority of the Magis-
trates ; that is to say,

2. Com}mtation of Distances. — The distance shall be computed from the stand
tor place whence the Carriage may happen to be engaged or hired ; but, iu case
the Carriage should be taken from any place of public assembly or amusement,
the distance shall bo computed from such place of assembly or amusement.
0. Detention. — If the Driver of any such Carriage be detained in the course of
his hire above fifteen minutes at any place or places, c.\cept when detained by the
hirer for the purpose of returning, as hereinafter provided, he shall receive for
«jvery fifteen minutes' detention, Si.\pencc.
V. Detention — to Return at Half -fare. — In any of the following cases, it shall he
nt the option of the hirer to detain the Carriage, and return in the same, on pay-
inent of Half-fare, without additional charge for detention.
Where the hire of a Carriage of tiie First Class shall amount to Two Shillings
or ujiwards, or, if of the Second Class, to One Shilling or upwards, and tho
detention shall not exceed one quarter of an hour.
