REPORT
COMMITTEE OF MANAGEMENT OF THE
NEW ASSOCIATION FOR THE PROMOTION OF THE
FINE ARTS IN SCOTLAND,*
FOR THE YEAR. 1838-9.
The Committee have very great pleasure in laying before its
Members tlie following Report on the prospects and affairs of the
New Association. Commenced as this Association was, last
year, under the disadvantage of the field being, to a great extent,
pre-occupied by " The Association for the promotion of the Fine
Arts," it is very gratifying to the Committee, to observe the large
increase to the Subscribers. The first year of the New Associa-
tion produced only 340 members, whilst this, the second, has
increased to 811, holding tickets to the amount of d£'851, lis. ;
thus affording conclusive proof, your Committee think, of the
approbation by the public of the plan on which your Associ-
ation is formed, and which essentially characterizes it from the
old Association. Your Committee are desirous that the great
distinction between the two Associations now in Edinburgh should
be extensively known, in order to afford the public an opportunity
* The " Art- Union" of London is a Society foniied upon the same plan as the New
Assoeiation.
