LIFE DEPARTMENT.
"1^^7'HILE the Premiums are as moderate as is consistent with security, the Holders of Life
• • Policies are entitled to periodical additions from the surplus Premiums, wliich may be applied
either to increase the sum payable at the death of the Insured, or to reduce the future Payments of
Premium. That this is a very substantial advantage will be perceived from the following TABLE,
showing the Additions made to Life Policies for L. 1000, effected in London, or through an Agent in
Great Britain, which have been in force for the Fourteen Years ending at Christmas 1830. Another
addition will be made as at Christmas last — but the amount is not yet declared. It will, however,
be satisfactory. Proportionate additions are made to policies for other amounts, or which have
been in force for shorter periods.
Thus, by the above table, it will be seen, that a person insuring L.IOOO at 20 years of age, at the
end of 14 years will have paid L.305 : 1 : 8 of Premium ; and, were he then to die, his heirs would
receive L. 1230 instead of L.IOOO. These additions will, on comparison, be found as great as have

As to the rates charged by the Company, it maysutfiee here to say, that the Tables adopted by the

practice of the Equitable Society has put them to the unerring test of long and extensive experience.
