Brigade Light Division when he was slightly wounded (Medal and Clasp, CB., Officer of the
Legion of Honor, Sardinian and Turkish Medals, and yrd Class of the Medjidie). Proceeded
to China in command of a Brigade in 1857 and succeeded to the commanci of the forces there
in Nov^jmbe? ; commanded the land forces at the capture by assault and occupa'i(m of the
city of Canton on 29th Dec. 1857 and in all subsequent minor operations, and continued in
command of the British forces in China until Marth 18C0 {KCB., Medal and Clasp).
110 Major General Parke served in co-operation with the Sjjanish fbrres and Legion near
San Sebastian, and under Espartero in raising the sifge of Bilboa—Medal (Knight 1st Class St.
Fernando and Knight of IsabeHa the Catholic).
111 Major General Jardine served during the Indian campaign of 1858, including the occu¬
pation, after the relief of Lucknow, of the fortified outposts and camp with Outram's force and
repulse of the enemy's attacks (Medal).
112 Major General W. G. Gold served as Lt.Culonel in the 53rd Regt. in the campaign on
the Sutltj, including the affair of Buddiwal, battles of Aliwal and Sobraon (wounded). He
commanded the Regiment during the subsequent operations (Medal and Clasp).
113 Major General Hurdle was at the attack on the forts and harbour of Courageaux in
1815 ; and battle of Navarino in 1827 (War Medal with one Clasp). He served during the re¬
volutionary war in Greece in 18S8, and received the Cross of the Redeemer of Greece. Was
present in the engagement at Punta Obligada in the river Parana on the 20th Nov. 1845, for
which he received the Brevet rank of Major. Commanded the Brigade of Royal Marines
serving with the army in the Crimea, including the battle of Bjlaklava, siege and fall of Se-
bistopol in 1854-55 ; commanded the 2iul Brigade of the Army at the surrender of Kinbourn
Medal and Clasps, CB., Aide-de Camp to the Queen, Officer of the Legion of Honor, Sar¬
dinian and Turkish Medals, and 3rd Class of the Medjidie).
114 Jlajor General Dwyer served in the blockading squadrons off Flushing, the Texel, and
off Brest. Since the peace he has served in the East an<l West Indies, and the Mediterranean.
115 Major General Walker landed in the Crimea on the 22nd Sept. 1854 and commanded
the Scots Fusilier Guards in the subsequent campaign, including the battles of Balaklava and
Inkerman (received three wound-, one severe, and had his horse shot under him), siege of Se-
bastopol (wounded), and repulse of the sortie 26th Oct. (Medal and Clasps, CB, Officer of
the Legion of Honor, Sirdinian and Turkish Medals, and 3rd Class of the ^Sledjidie).
116 Major General Drought served uninterruptedly for 41 years in the 15th Regt, the last
ten ai Lt.-Col. Commanding. He commanded the entire of the troops in the Kandian Pro¬
vinces in Ceylon during the successful suppression of the Rebellion in 1848 ;—received the
thanks of the Queen and of the Local Government, and was most honourably mentioned
throughout in the Dispatches of the Governor and Commander in Chief. He was continued
commandant of those Provinces for four years (two years longer than tho usual period) in
consideration of the services he rendered. On quitting the command the European residents
and the loyal chiefs presented him and his Regiment with a most gratifying address accom¬
panied by a valuable testimonial.
117 Major General Lowth when Brigadier commanding at Kurrachee disarmed the 21bt
Rogt Bombay N.L on the night of the 13th Sept. 1857. Served with the Central India field
force in 1858 in command of the 84th Regt. and was present at the siege storm and capture of
the strong hill fort of Chundaireo, battle of the Betwa, siege storm and capture of the town
and fortress of Jhansi, action of Koonch, operations before Calpee from IGlh to 21st May,
battle of Gowlowlie, capture of the town and fort of Calpee, battle of Morar, battle of and
capture of the town and fortress of Gwalior (several times mentioned in despatches, Brevet of
Colonel, distinguished service pension, CB., Medil and Clasp).
118 Major General the Hon. A. A. Spencer served throughout the Eastern campaign of
1854-55. and commanded the44th Rogt. at thebattles of Alma and Inkcrman,siege of Sebastopol,
and attack and occupation of the Cemetery and Suburbs on the 18th June—wounded. Served as
Brigadier General, and commanded the 1st Brigade, 4th Division, in support in the right attack
in the assault of the Redan, and fall of Seba^topol on 8th Sept., and subsequently commanded
the British land forces in the expedition to Kinbourn, resulting in the capture of those forts
and the garrison of 1400 men (Medal and Clasps, CB., Officer of the Legion of Honor, Sar¬
dinian and Turkish Medals, and 3rd Class of the Medjidic).
119 Major General Blachford served with the 24th in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-9
(Medal), including the passage of the Chenab and battles of Sadoolaporc, Chillianwallah (suc¬
ceeded to the command of t"he Regt.), and Goojerat (Medal and Clasjjs).
120 Major General Bloomfield served with the 59th Regt. the campaign of 1815, including
the battle of Waterloo, storming of Cambray,and capture of Paris.
121 Major General Lawrenson commanded the 17th l^ancers in the Eastern campaign of
1854-55, including the cavalry affair of Bulganac and battle of Alma (Medal and Clasp, Sar¬
dinian and Turkish Medals, and 4th Class of the Medjidie).
122 Major General Hodgson served with the 45th in the Burmese war (Medal).
123 Majcr General Johnstcne served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the siege
of Sebastopol: he was Field Officer in command of the trenches at the taking of the Quarries
on the 7lh June; commanded the 33rd Regt. in the assault on the 18lh June, and was severely
wounded by grape-shot; left arm amputated (Medal and Clasp, CB., 5th Class of the Mecf-
jidie, and Turkish Medal).
124 Major General M'Cleverty served the campaign against the Rajah of Coorg, in April
1834, with the 48th Regiment,
