of 1858-59, commanded the Regt. at the attack and capture of the Oude Forts Deha.yn and Turowl on 14th and 17th
July 1S58 ;' engaged in operations in the Futtehghur, Azimghur, and Gorrickpore districts in 185S, and in the Terai,
Nepaul, in 1859 (five times mentioned in despatches. Medal).
3"« Lt.Colonel T. N. Baker served daring the Sonthal campaign of 1855.
3'7 Lt.Colonel H. T. Oldfleld served in 1854-55 against HillTribes on the Peshawur Frontier (mentioned in despatch).
Also with the force under Colonel Craigie in tlie operations against the Busee Kheyl Tribes in March 1835 (Medal
V7ith Clasp). Served in May and June 1857 in the Indian mutiny against insurgents. Present at the action of the
5th July 1857 at Agra—charger wounded. Served in command of a Squadron of Sikh Horsa with the Column
under Brigadier Showers in the pursuit of Tantia Topee from December 185^ to May 1839. Present at the action
of Dewsah i8th January 1859—(mentioned for " gallant conduct," and received the thanks of the Government of
the Korth-West Provinces, Medal).
ssi'Lt.Oolonel'W. Gordon served in Burmah against the rebel Mong Gong Gee in 1834. Had charge of the entrench¬
ments at Allahabad, and command of outposts during the mutinies in 1857 (Medal). Accompanied the Expeditionary
Force to China, and was present at the capture of Pekin (Medal with Clasp).
^' Lt. Colonel H. V. Mathias served throughout the Sonthal campaign of 1855-36. Was 2nd in Command of the
Eewah and Nagode Ra.jah's Troops at the opening of the Deccan road in 1857-58, during which operations the
forts ofKunchimporeJoorah, Myhere city and fort, Jokye, Kunnwarrah, Bejeeragooghur, and 42 pieces of ordnance
were taken (slightly wounded). Was 2nd in Command of the Rewah Contingent at the storming of the enemy's
position on the Punwarrah Heights, taking all the enemy's guns, killing their leaders, and entirely dispersing their
force (Medal).
382 Lt.Colonel W. Playfair served with the ist Sind Horse, with the 2nd Division of the Persian Expeditionary
Force in 1857, and was present at the bombardment and capture of ilohumra (Medal with Clasp).
3»2 Lt.Colonel MelmothA. Douglas Orchard served durnig the Indian mutiny of 1857-5S, and was present in the
actions of the 5th July and 10th October 1857 at Agra (Medal).
38* Lt.Colonel C. W. Fletcher served throughout the defence of the Residency of Luoknow from the 30th June until
its final relief by Lord Clyde on the 17th Nov. 1857, and was severely wounded—shot through the left arm, reaultino;
in the loss of the use of the left hand—whilst on duty as Look-out Officer on the top of the Residency on the iStU
August (Medal with Clasp, wound pension for life, and a year's service).
3**tColonel D. Macintyre served with the 66th Goorkhas with both expeditions of 1852, under Sir Colin Campbell,
against the Hill Tribes on the Peshawnr frontier, including the destruction of the fortified village ofPranghur and
action at Ishkakot. Served also with the Expeditionary Force against the Boree Afrocdoes in November 1833.
Also served with the 66th Goorkhas in the expedition under Sir Nevill Chamberlain to Koorum Valley, Afghanistan,
in 1856, and with the Doaba Field Force, Peshawur Valley, in 1864 (Medal with Clasp). Employed on several
occasions in 1857-38, when commanding an extra Goorkha Regiment, in protecting the; hill passes on the Kalee
Kiimaon frontier from the Rohilcund rebels, and in keeping the district in order (Medal). Served with the Looshai
expedition in 1871-72 (several times mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Lieutenant Colonel, Victoria Cross, and
Clasp to Frontier Medal). Commanded the 2nd Goorkhas with the Khyber Column in the Afghan war of 1878-79,
and was in boih expeditions to the Bazaar Valley.
3*^ Lt.Colonel R. D. Campbell served throughout the Sonthal campaign of 1835-56. Served throughout the Indian
mutiny campaign, against the mutineers near Benares on the 6th July 1857 (charger severely wounded),
also at Azimghur, and with the Nepaulese Contingent in the Goruckpore district (Medal). Served also throughout
the Bhootan campaign of 1864-65, and was present at the storming and capture of Dalimkote, and of Bala and
Nagoh stockades (Medal with Clasp).
38* Colonel C.Nedham served in the loth Regt. the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the whole of the siege
operations before Mooltan, affair of 9th Sept., storming of the enemy's strongly-entrenched position, capture of the
Dowlat Gate, action of Soorjkoond, and surrender of the fortress: afterwards present at the battle of Goojerat
(Medal with Clasp). Served with the 34th Regt. at the defeat of the rebels near Bootwul on the Nepaul frontier on
2Sth March 1839 (Medal).
388t Lt.Colonel J.Hudson served as Adjutant 64th Regt.turoughout the Persian campaign of 1836-57, including the
storm and capture of Reshire, surrender of Bushire night attack and battle of Kooshab, and bombardment of
Mohumrah (Medal with Clasp). Served in Bengal and N.W. Provinces in suppressing the mutiny in 1857-58 ; pre¬
sent with Havelock's Column in the actions of Futtehpore, Aoung, Pandoo Nuddee, Cawnpore, Oonao, Buseerut
Gunge (tir.st and second), Boorbeakechowkee, Bithoor, Alumbagh, and first relief of Lucknow; present in all sub¬
sequent operations, including three sorties, until the second relief of Lucknow (thanked by Governor General in
Council) ; served in defence of Cawnpore and defeat of the Gwalior mutineers, and action of Kalee Nuddee andKer-
keroulie, and capture of Baroilly; acted as D.A. Adjutant General with Sir H. Havelock at Mohumrah and at Alum¬
bagh (Medal with Clasp, and a year's service for Lueknow). Served as 2nd in Command of the 21st Bengal Native
Infantry in the Abyssinian campaign (mentioned in despatches. Medal).
38" Lt.Colonel E. L. F.arle served throughout the siege of Delhi in 1857, and was wounded on the right side by a
musket-ball (mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp).
388 Lt.Colonel G. C. Depree served in Arracan diu'ing the Bui-mese war of 1852-53 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).
3"- Lt.Colonel G. A. Prendergast commanded a Squadron Mooltanee Cavalry detached from Shahjehanpore°to the
assistance of the Rajah of Powayne and commanded at Powayne during the attack on that place by the rebels under
Khan Bahadoor Khab and Feroze Shah on the 7th and 8th Oct. 1838. Served as Orderly Officer to Brigadier Troup
during the campaign in Oude in 1858-59, and was present in the actions of Pusgaon and Russoolpore, and attack
and capture of Fort Mittowlie (Medal).
'52 Lt.Colonel C. H. S. Scott served with the 7i8t Light Infantry in the Crimean campaign from 7th Feb. 1855, in¬
cluding the siege of Sebastopol, expedition to Kertch, destruction of and affairs at Taman (Medal with Clasi>, and
Turkish Medal). Served with the Central India Field Force under Sir Hugh Rose, and was present at the actions of
Koonch, Muttra, and Deopoora, battle of Golowlee, capture of Calpee, actionofMorar, and capture of Gwalior (men¬
tioned in despatches). In Nov. 1858 accompanied a Flying Column to hunt up rebels in the Gwalior district as Staff
Officer to the Column (Medal with Clasp for Central India).
393 Lt.Colonel W.H.Mackesy served in the Crimea from 16th Aug. 1855,and was present at the siege and fall of Sebas¬
topol, and assault of the 8th Sept., and acted as Assistant Engineer to the Highland Brigade (Modal with Clasp, and
Turkish Medal). Served in the Indian campaign of 1858-59, including the siege and capture of Lucknow; also acted
as Assist. Field Engineer from Nov. 1858, and was engaged with the 4th Company Royal Engineers in all the actions
and at the taking and destruction of various fortifications from Allahabad to the Nepaul country (Medal with Clasp).
35* Lt.Colonel M. M. Prendergast served in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1857-58, and was present at the oc¬
cupation of the Alumbagh under Outram, siege and capture of Lnckntiw, and subsequent operations in Oude, affair
of Bunnee (wounded), and actions of Simree and Nawabgunge (twice mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp).
39i Colonel H. H. Gough served as Adjutant of Hodson's Horse throughout the siege of Delhi (wounded)!
Commanded a Wing of the Regiment in the actions of Bolundshur, AUyghur, and Agra, relief of Lucknow by Lord'
Clyde, battle of Cawnpore, affairs at Seraighat and Khodagimge, siege and capture of Lucknow (severely wounded
and two horses killed), and action of Ranode (mentioned in despatches on several occasions for "distinguished
bravery" and thanked bythe Governor General of India, Brevet of Major, Victoria Cross, and Medal with three
Clasps).
306 Lt.Colonel A. Seagrim served with the ist Royals in the Crimea from the 20th August 1855, including the siege
and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
397 Lt.Colonel W. Wmson served with the Kclat-i-Ghilzie Regiment on the Peshawur Frontier in 1855-56 and during
the mutiny in 1857 (Medal). With the same Regiment in Eusofzaie under Sir Sydne.y Cotton in April and May 1838
Commanded the i8th Bengal Native Infantry during the operations in Bhootan in 1865, and was present at the re¬
capture of the Bala Pass (Medal with two Clasps).
3** Colonel G. R. Westmacott was present with the 23rd Bengal Native Infantry at Mhow when that Regiment
mutimed on the ist July 1857. Commanded a detachment of Hyderabad Cavalry, Infantry, and Artillery in Malwa
in 1857. Served with the Central India Field Force under Sir Hugh I'^ose in 1857-58, and was present at the
