in the Pes-hawur Expeditionary Force on the Euso'zie Frontier under Sir Sydncj' Cotton in April and May 1S53,
and Rt the affair with the Hindostanee fanatics on the heijihts of Sittana on the 4th May (Medal ^ ith Clasp).
^'0 Colonel Rice served with the 51st Light Infantry during the war in Burmah from April to August 1852 ; was on
board the E.I.C. steam-sloop iSeso/lris during the Naval action and de.struction of the enemy's stockades on the
Rangoon River ; served during the succeeding three days' operations in the vicinity, and at the storm and capture of
Rangoon; also at the assault and capture of Bassein, 19th May (severely wounded). Was mentioned in General
Ooodwin's despatches as " deserving the best consideration of Government" for cajrturing by storm with his com¬
pany and a sub-division of the 9th Madras Native Infantry the enemy's stronghold and entrenched position south
of Bassein, armed with sixteen guns and twenty gingaUs; honoured with the best thanks of the Governor General
in '^ouncil (Medal for Pegu).
*3' Colonel C. R. Richardson served throughout the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46 with the 9th Regiment, and was
present at the battles of Moodkee. Ferozeshah, and Sobraon (Medal and two Clasps). Served in the I'unjaub
ciimpaign of 1848-40 with the 6ist Regiment, and was present at the action of Ramnuggur. the passage of the
Chenab, the battles of Sadoolapore and ChiUianwallah, and with the field force in nursuit of the Afifghans to the
Khyber Pass in March 1849 (Medal with two Clasps). Served in India during the mutiny in 1857-58, and was
present at the siege assault and capture of Delhi in 1857 (Medal with Clasp).
'^^^ Colonel R. Richardson served in the 3rd Bengal Light Cavalry tiie Sutlej campaign of 1845-46, including the
hattles of Aliwal and Sobraon (Medal and one Clasp). Commanded a Regiment and subsequently a Brigade of
Cavalry in the Turkish Contingent in the Eastern campaign during 1855-56, under General Vivian, and has received
the 4th Class of the Medjidie. Was attached to the 6th Driigoou G.ianls in 1857 and present at the battles of the
Hindun and Budleekeserai, and during the siege of Delhi (Medal with Clasp).
*2* Colonel C. P. Roberts served throughout the Central India cmipaign of 1857-58, including the siege and
capture of Rathgur, capture of Garrakota, siege and capture of .Thansi and Calpee and pursuit, surrender of
Gwalior and pursuit, actions at Baroda, Munde»pore, Koonch, Galowlee, Moral, and Jowra Alipore (Medal with
Clasp).
iiss Colonel H. B. Roberts was in the action with the batteries and expulsion of the Russian garrison from Re¬
doubt Kaleh on the 19th May 1854. Served with the R.M. Brigade daring the siege of Sebastopol; was employed
as Assistant Engineer at Balaklava, and with the Royal M. Artillery in the siege train before Sebastopol in 1854-55
(Medal with Clasp, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
'^' Colonel J. F, Robertson served with the Persian Expedition in 1857, including the bombardment and
capture of Mohumra and subsequent pursuit of the Persian army (Medal with Clasp). Was present during the
operations against the insurgent Dessaies in the North Canara and Bedee districts from 15th February to 23rd May
1858; proceeded with the detachment sent from Dharwar to reinforce the column under Colonel Malcolm before
Nurgoond.
^''^ Colonel W. Robertson served during the Burmese war in 1852-53, and was 1 resent with the Martabau Column
on its advance to Tonghoo ; also at the attack upon Kyouk Douay, and other affairs during the march (Medal with
Clasp for Peau). Commanded a dcta,chmeut during the disturbances in Kimedy in 1856. Served in Bengal with
Madras Rifles during the mutinies in 1857-59 (Medal).
2'' Colonel E. St. George served throughout the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46, including the battles of Moodkee,
Ferozeshah, and Sobraon (Medal and two Clasps). Burmese war in 1852-53 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Indian
mutiny campaign, including the siege and capture of Lucknow—dangerously wounded (Medal with Clasp).
2w Colonel Savage served with the detachment of the 91st Regiment in the expedition agamst the insurgent Boers
beyond the Orange River, South Africa, in 1845; also in the Kaffir war of 1846-47 ; and in that in 1852-53 (Medal).
^^^ Colonel A. Sceberras served as Adjutant of the 70thRegiment during the Indian mutiny in 1857-5S (Medal).
Was present at the disarming of the mutinous Native Garrison of Peshawur, and subsequently at the outbreak
and total annihilation of the late 51st Bengal Native Infantry in August 1857, when his charger was shot.
'" Colonel A. Schmid served in the Schleswig-Holsteiu Army during the first Danish war, and took p.art in the
campaigns of 18(8-50. being presentatmostof the actions, and has received the Schle.-<wig-Holsteia decoration.
2" Colonel Albert Sea.grim served with the ist Royals in the Crimea from the 20th August 1855, including the
Biege and fall of Sebastopol (Medwl with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
^"^ Colonel C, H. S. Scott served with the 71 St Light Infantry in the Crimean campaign from the 7th February
1855, including the siege of Sebastopol, expedition to Kertch, destruction of and affairs at Taman (Medal with Clasp,
and Titrkish Medal). Served with the Central India Field Force under Sir Hugh Rose, and was present at the
actions of Koonch, Muttra, and Deopoora, battle of Galolee, capture of Calpee, action of Morar, and capture of
Owalior (mentioned in despatches). Tn November 1858 accompanied a Flying Column to hunt up rebels in the
Gwalior district as Staff Officer to the Cohimn (Medal with Clasp for Central India).
''** Colonel E. H. Scott served with tlie Bimdlecund field force in 1859.
'*5 Colonel S. Scott served with the Persian Expeditionary Force in 1S56-57, and was present at the assault and
capture of Reshire, surrender of Bushire, with the expedition to Borazjoou, and at the action at Khooshab (Medal
with Clasp). Served with the field force in the latter part of 1857 under Brigadier General LeGra-nd Jacob at the
recapture of Kolapoor ; with the field force in the operations in the Akranee Country, and with the Satpoora Field
Force under Major Evans; commanded a detachment of the Khandeish Bheel Corps in the action of Ambapawnee
on the nth of Aju-il 1858 (received the high approbation of Government).
•** Colonel Searle served the Syrian campaign (Medal with Clasp, and 'Turkish Medal); was at D'Jouni, the attack
on the fortified position of Gebail, at the surrender of Beyrout, and the storming of Sidon. Served with the Baltic
expedition in 1855, including the action with a battery at the mouth of the Narova i8th June—wounded (Medal).
2« Colonel J. F. T. Shadwell served with the 87th Fusiliers in the Indian campaign of 1857-58 ; commanded the
selected marksmen of the Regiment during the Peshawur outbreak ; was present at the mutiny and destruction
of the 5i8t Bengal Native Infantry on the 12th August 1857 (Medal).
"5 Colonel C. J. Skerry served in the mutiny in India in 1857-58, and was present when the 8ist Regiment,
under Colonel Renny, disarmed at Mean Meer one Regiment of Native Cavalry and three Regiments of Native
Infantry, all disaffected and ripe for mutiny (Medal).
«' (3olonel C. F. J. Skottowe served with the Turkish Contingent in the Crimea during the Russian war, and
was present at the defence and occupation of Kertch. Served as a volunteer with the 35th Madras Native Infantry
â– during the Burmese war of 1852-53, and was present at the capture of Prome 9th and loth October 1852, at Nowany
from 19th October to 20th December 1852; accompanied the force under Sir John Cheape to Meeaday, and present
at the attack of the stockades 30th Jantiary 1853, and other minor affairs (Modal with Clasp for Pegu).
»" Colonel W. Smith served in the Indian nnitiny campaign in 1857-58 in military charge of two Battalions of
Nepaulese troops, and was present at the actions of Chanda, Ummeerpore, and Sultanpore, attack of the Begum's
Kote, siege and capture of Lucknow (mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp).
**> Colonel J. Suiyth commanded the 69th Regiment during the repulse of an incursion of Fenians into Canada in
May 1870.
»^i Colonel A. T. Spens served with the Persian Expeditionary Field Force in 1856 and 1857, and was present at
the landing at Hallilah Bay, assault and capture of Reshire, and surrender of Bushire, at Borazjoon (wounded),and
action of Khooshab; commanded the Left Troop of the Squadron 3rd Light Cavalry, which cluirged and broke the
Persian square (horse wounded, Medal with Clasp). Served with the CJentral India Field Force under Sir Hugh
Rose, including siege and capture of Ratghur, relief of Saugor, capture of GaiTokota, forcing of the Muddenpore
Pass, siege and storm of Jhansi, battle of Koonch, battle of Muttra, the three engagements at Jalowlee on the River
Jumna (acted as Quarter Master General to the Second Brigade), capture of Calpee, capture of the cantonment of
Morar, final pursuit of the enemy under Sir Robert Napier, battle of Jowra Alipore; also served against the rebels
iu the Jhansi and Jaloun districts during the monsoon of 1858 (Medal with Clasp).
2«3 Colonel P. P. L. Stafford was employed in 1857-59 ™ the suppression of the mutiny in Bengal, and served
with the 4th Punjaub Infantry (Rifles) at the siege of Luckrjowfrom 2nd till 2iBt March 1858; present at the taking
of the east wall Martiuiere compound 2Ud March 1858, at the Martiniere on the 9th March 1858, and on the same
day led the ist company Punjaub Infantry (Rifles) at the taking of the enemy's first line of fntrenchment close to
the canal, present at the storming and taking of the Begum Palace and battle of Rooyeah ; commanded 4th Pun¬
jaub Infantry at the battle of Aligunge, present at the battle and taking of Bareill,y (Medal with Clasp).
