Colonels Retired on Full or Ilellrcd Pay or on a Pension.—War Services. ^d'lt
'™ Colonel Hamilton Maxwell served in the Burmese war of 1852-53, ind was present at the storm and recapture
of Pctru (Medal, with Cluti) Jor J'egu). Served as Adjutant of the ist Bengal iJuropean Fusiliers in the Tiaus-(ioomte3
operatioTis terminating in the assault and capture of Lucknow; present in subsequent operations in Oade, de-
featiug the rebels and capturing their guns (Medal with Clasp).
'^'Colonel Mends served as a Midshipman, Royal Navy, during the years 1812,13, and 14, in North and South
America. Served at every British possession in Western Africa, for fourteen years, and was present at the firet
attack made upon the Ashantees near the village of Donguah, 26th September 1823, under Sir Charles M'Carthy,
Present also at the destruction of the native Dutch town of Succondee, 17th February 1824, and employed in the
boats of H.M. ships of war skirmishing with the natives of that town and the Ashantees on the following morning.
In action against the Ashantees, 21st May 1824 ; and at the defeat of their army on the heights in rear of Cape Coatt
Castle, nth July following. On the 4th February 1826, whilst in command of Di.-ccove Fort, he was attacked by
about 6,000 natives, the garrison consisting of only one corporal and nineteen privates (natives), Royal African Corps ;
with these he defended the post, and forced the enemy to retreat with much loss in kiUed and wounded. Besides
the above he has been in various skirmishes with the natives.
"^ Colonel A. G. Mayne was present in the charge on the guns at the mutiny of the Bengal troops at Nusseerabad
on 28th May 1857 ; at the siege of and in the pursuit subsequent to the fall of Kotah in March and April 1858 under
Major General Roberts; served with Smith's Brigade in Central Intlia, and) was present at the battle of Kotah-ke-
Serai, and capture of Gwalior; served with the Malwa Field Force under Sir John Michel, and was present at the
battle of Sindwaho (slightly wounded, sabre cut, and mentioned in despatch), and at the affair at Knrrai; served-
as Orderly Officer to Brigadier Smith at the action of Koondrye (mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp).
"' Colonel Menzies served with the Baltic expeditions in 1854, 1855, and 1856 (Medal).
1^^ Colonel T. C. Movrick served in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-43, and was present at the assault on the
Heights of DuUah (Medal).
"' Colonel R. F. Middlemore served in the latter part of the Kaffir war of 1846-47, also throughout that of 1851-53
(Medal) as second senior Officer of the reserve Battalion 91st Regiment, and frequently commanded it in variou.s
engagements, and was present in every affair the Battalion was engaged in during the war; commanded 120 men
with Eyre's Division in his first attack on the Amatolas and Noble VaUey.
"5 Colonel ^V. T. Mills served at the siege and storm of the fortresses of Chandaree and Jhansi, battle of the
Betwa, action at Koonch, the different actions on the banks of the Jumna from the 15th to 23rd May 1858, ending
in the caiitnre of Calpee (wounded); the action of Morar, actions at and near Kotah-ke-Serai, and capture of
Gwalior; in the ravines of the Jumna and Sind rivers against the rebel Thakoor, Biirjore Singh (Medal with Clasp)-
="*' Colonel W. C. Mitchel served with the force under Brigadier Cotton against the Mohmund hill tribe on the
Peshawur frontier in August 1S54 (iledal with Clasp). Served also during the mutinies in the Goraria district in.
September. October, and November 1857.
202 Colonel J. Morland served in the Burmese war of 1852-53. and was present at the storm and re-capture of
Pegu on the 2i8t November; also at the relief of the Garrison on the 14th Doc. 1852 (.Medal with Clasp for Pegu).
Served throughout the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-59; accompanied Havelock's Force on its first taking the
field in July 1857, and was present at the actions of Futtehpore, Aoung, Pandoo Nuddee, Cawupore, Oonao, Bus-
■ seerutgunge, Nawabgunge, Boorbeeakechowkee, Bithoor, Mungarwar, and Alumbagh, and relief of Lucknow.
Afterwards present at the siege and capture of Lucknow by Lord Clyde; during the Rohilcund campaign, and
subsequent operations in Cade (several times mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp, a year's service, and.
Brevet of Major).
^"2 Colonel J. W. H. C. G. Morris served with the Baltic expedition in 1855 (Medal). Served also I'u New Zealand
against the Maories in i860, including the attack on Puketakauere on 27th June, and was thanked in General
Pratt's despatch (Brevet of Major, Medal).
™* Colonel E. A. Mottet was employed on field service in the Raichore Doab from 4th June to 5th August 1858.
'"' Colonel H. E. Mottet was present with his Regiment on field service from the commencement of the distur¬
bances till 2iid November 1857.
2°* Colonel J. S. Mould was present at the attacks on the Russian batteries at Petrcpaulovski on 31st August and
4th Sept., and at the capture of two Russian vessels on 7th Sept. 1854.

2™ Colonel C. E. Naylor served throughout the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the siege and surrender
of Mooltan, battle of Goojerat, pursuit andsurrouder of the Sikh army (Medal with two Clasps).
^'1 Colonel S. New was employed on field service in the Saugor and Nerbudda Territories and Raopore district
from nth October 1857 to 30th April 1858, and was present at Moorwarah 6th November 1S57, and affairs of
Kooagaun and Junapanee (Medal).
^^^ Colonel A. L. Nicholson served the campaign of 1842 in Affghanistau under General Pollock (Medal).
Served in the Indian mutiny campaign as Commissariat Officer to Colonel Turner's Field Force in Shahabad
in 1858-59 (Medal).

before Mooltan, including the attack on tlie suburbs, afterwards present at the battle of Goojorat (Medal with two

220 Colonel R. Ouseley served throughout the Puujaub campaign of 1848-49, including the affair of Ramnuggar,
and battles of Sadoolapore, Chiliianwallah, and Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps). Served in the Indian mutiny
campaign of 1857-58; present at the mutiny at Lucknow, at the action of Chinhut, defence and evaouatiim of the
Muchee Bhawun, and throughout the defence of the Residency, subsequent operations against the Gwalior Con¬
tingent and battle of Cawnpore, occupation of Futtehpore, siege and capture of Lucknow. Performed the duties
of an Artillery Officer and had charge of one 18-ponnder and two 9-i)ounders at Gubbins' outpost during tlio
defence of the Residency from July to Nov. 1857 (twice mentioned in despatches. Medal with two Clasps, and a
year's service).
2^' Colonel R. Parke served in the China expedition of 1857-58, and was at the blockade of the Canton river, and
Major of the ist Battalion at the landing before and storming of the city (Brevet of Major). Accompanied the expe¬
dition to the north of China, and in command of the ist Battalion at the attack on the forts a,t the Peilio on 2^111
June 1859, and brought the Brigade out of action (mentioned in despatches, and Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Medal with'
Clasp).
'^'^ Colonel P. T. M. Payne served with the Royal Marine Brigade in the Crimea and at the sm-render of Kinbourn.
in 1855 (Medal, and Turkish Medal).
^'^^ Colonel G. F. Pearson was employed on field service with the Kampteo Movable Column in the Saugor and
Nerbudda Territories and Raepore district from 13th November 1857 to 30th April 1858, and was present at an
attack upon and defeat of a large body of rebels at Khonee Pass in the Jubbulpore district on the 27th December
1857 (Medal).
"5 Colonel F. L. Playfair served during the second Burmese war, and was present at the attack and capture ol
Rangoon 12th and 14th April 1852 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).
^'^ Colonel F. T. Pollok accompanied a field force under Colonel Cotton in 1853-54 iii tliePromeandTharawatldie
districts, employed in driving out gangs of Dacoits from Maoung-Gong-Gie, engaged in several minor affairs in
those districts.
'** Colonel Purvis was at the taking of the Fort of Badamee in June 1841. Served in the Burmese war in 1852, com»
manded the Artillery at Martaban, and was present at the various attacks on that place by the Burmese (Medal for Pegu),
