15th Sept. and was wounded on the 18th leading the assault on the Hubshco-ka-Phatuk; planned and carried out
the forward movement of the right attack within the citj% surprising and capturing the Burn Ba.<tion at its gorge
on the evening of the 19th, retaining it under a constant fire until the next morning, when the enemy evacuated Delhi.
Proceeded with Greathed's Column and commanded the Regt. in the actions of Bolundshuhur, Aligurh, Akbarabad,
Agra, and Kanoj, advance into Oude and minor affairs ending in the relief of Lucknow; subsequently with the
Oude field force, in front of the city until 14th Feb.—specially mentioned in Outram's despatch for "judgment and
coolness" in defending the left advanced outpost of the Camp during a night attack made bj- a very large force of
the enemy on the 16th Jan., which he repulsed with severe loss (Medal with two Clasps, and Brevet of Lt.Colonel).
'■'■' Lt.General Baynea served in the Crimea from Nov. 1854 as Captain in the Mounted Staff Corps, and after¬
wards as Military Magistrate of the Army (Medal with Clasp for Sebastopol, 5th Class of the iledjidie, Turkish Medal,
and Brevet of Major). Served in India during the mutiny, and commanded the force consisting of 2 guns Horse Artil¬
lery, 150 men of 8th Regt., and a detachment of Punjaub Cavalry, which surprised the garrison and secured the fort
and magazine of Philloui-, on the Sutlej, 12th and 13th May 1857. Served with the 8th Regt. at the siege of Delhi,
and was dangerously wounded at the assault of the city, leg amputated (Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Medal with Clasp).
'* Lt.General H. B. Norman served with the loth Regt. in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46, and was present at the
battle of Sobraon (Medal). He served also in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, and was present during the whole of
the siege operations against Mooltan and surrender of the fortress, including the affair of the gth Sej it., storming the
enemy's strongly-entrenched position before Mooltan, and commanded the Troops in the advanced batteries of the
Camp durinsr the action of Soorjkoond; afterwards present at the battle of Goojerat (Meilal with two Clasps).
Commanded two Companies when the Sepoys mutinied at Benares on 4th June 1857; commanded the selected
marksmen of the Regiment with the Jounpore Field Force, including the actions of Chanda, Sultanpore, and
Dhowraha; present with the Regiment at the repulse of the enemy near Amerpoore, siege and capture of Lucknow
including the storming of the Emaumbara and the Kaisabagh; commanded the Regiment at the passage of the
Tonse and forcing the enemy's position near Azimghur; present in the skirmish near Birheca, and at the defeat of
the enemy at Jugdespore and subsequently repulsed them from that post; commanded the Regiment in the opera¬
tions on the 26th May, 2nd and 4th June; was several times mentioned in despatches, and promoted Brevet
Major and Brevet Lt.Colonel (Medal with Clasp, and Cli.).
^^ Lt.General Stapylton served in the 13th Light Infantry the campaigns of 1840 and 42 in Affghanistan, and
was present at the storming of the Khoord Cabool Pass, affair of Tezeen, forcing the JugduUuck Pass, reduction of
the fort of Mamoo Khail, heroic defence of Jellalabad. and sorties on the 14th Nov. and ist Dec. 1841, nth March,
24th March, and ist April 1842; the general action with defeat of the besieging force under Akbar Khan before
Jellalabad on the 7th April, the storming of the JugduUuck heights, general action at Tezeen, and recapture of
Cabool. for which lie has a Medal, as also for Jellalabad.
^''Lt.General Aplin served with the 28th Regiment throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the
battles of Alma and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastojiol, and affair in the Cemetery, Wounded while in com¬
mand of the Sharpshooters of the 28th Regt. (Medal with three Clasps, Brevet of Major, Knight of the Legion of
Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
^'' Lt.General Hood wrfs employed in the year 1846 as Secretary on a special public mission to the Argentine
Republic to settle the difference on the part of the combined Powers of England and France, and General Rosas, the
Governor of Buenos Ayres. Served in the Crimea with the Buffs from the ist May 1855 to the 8th January 1856,
including the siege and fall of Sebastopol (wounded), and commanded the ladderparty of the Buffs at the assault of
the Redan on 8th Sept.—wounded; commanded the Kegiment from 13th Sept. to 27th Dec. 1855, and marched it into
the Karabelnaia on 17th Sept. with Colours, &c., these being the only English colours that entered Sebastopol
(Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
^^ Lt.General Eagar served the campaign of 1842 in Affghanistan with the 3tst Regiment, including the actions
of Mazeona, Tezeen, and Jugdulluck, the occupation of Cabool, and the different engagements leading to it (Medal),
Served in the Crimea from nth June 1855, as Brigade Major of 2nd Brigade ist Division from 19th August 1855 to
17th January 1856, and was present at the siege and fiiU of Sebastopol and attacks on the i8th June and 8th Sep¬
tember (Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish
Medal). Served throughout the campaign in the north of China in i860, and was present at the action of Sinho
and storming of Tangku (Medal with Clasp for the Taku Forts, and Brevet of Lt.Colonel) Commanded the 31st'
Regiment in the operations against the Taeping rebels in 1S62, including the recapture of Khading.
^ Lt.General Hon. S. J. G. Calthorpe served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 as Aide de Camp to Lord Raglan^
including the battles of Alma, Balaklava, and Inkerman, affairs of Bulganak and M'Kenzie's Farm, and siege of
Sebastopol (MedalwithfourClasps, Brevet of Major, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and
Turkish Medal).
'"*' Lt.General Redmond served with the 6ist Regt. throughout the Punjanb campaign of 1848-49, and was pre¬
sent at the passage of the Chenab and in the battles of Sadoolapore, ChiUianwallah, and Goojerat, and with the
Field Force in pursuit of the enemy to the Khyber Pass (Medal with two Clasps). E.xpedition into the Eusufzie
Country, and skirmishes near Sa.ggow and Zoormundie on nth and 14th Dec. 1849. Commanded the flank Com¬
panies 6ist Regiment with the force under Sir Colin Campbell at the forcing of the Kohat Pass in Feb. 1850 (Medal
with Clasp). Commanded Detachment 6ist Regiment which repulsed the attack of the mutinous Sepoys on the
magazine at Ferozepore on 13th May 1857, and was severely wounded. Served at the siege (from 14th Aug.)
assault and capture of Delhi (Medal with Clasp, and CB).
""Lt.General Hutchinson served with the 2nd Dragoon Guards in the Indian campaign in 1858-59, including
the siege and captui'e of Lucknow and subsequent operations, and commanded a detached Squadron in the action.
of Barree, and Trans-Gogra affairs at Bungaon and Newabghur (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp, and
Brevet of Lt.Colonel).
1"^ Lt.General Steele served in the 98th Foot in the expedition to the north of China in 1842 (Medal), and was
present at the attack and capture of Chin Kiang Foo, and at the landing before Nankin. Served with the 9th
Lancers at the relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde in Nov. 1857, and commanded the Siiuadron on advanced guard at
the taking of the Secunderbagh and during the relief; also commanded a Squadron at the battle of Cawnpore on 6th
Dec. 1857, and at the action at Seraighat; commanded two Squadrons in action at Shumshabad (severely wounded);
present during the siege of Lucknow from 2nd to 19th March 1858, and commanded a Squadron in the Trans-Gogra
affair at Kumdakoti (mentioned in despatches. Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Medal with two Clasps).
'"^Lt.Goneral Grierson served with the 15th Regt. throughout the rebellion of 1837-38 in Canada, including the
advance upon Nuperville and subsequent pursuit of the insurgents. Served also with a Detachment consisting of
200 of the 15th Regiment and Ceylon Rifles, under Captain Lillie, in defeating the insurgent at Matole on the
29th July 1848, during the rebellion in the Kandiau Provinces iu Ceylon. Has been awarded he Royal Humane
Society's Silver Medal for saving a boy from drowning in 1853.
">* Lt.General Annesley served with'the 37th Regt. in Ceylon during the rebellion in 1.S48. Served with the loth
Regiment in the Indian campaign of 1857-58, was present at the suppression of the muiiny at Benares, capture of
the Fort of Atrowleea, advance ou Lucknow, including theactions of Chanda, Umeerpore, Sultanpore, and Douraha,
siege and capture of Lucknow, commanded the advanced party into the Kaisabagh. commanded a party of Volun¬
teers occujjj'ing the large Mosque commanding the Kaisabagh—mentioned in despatches as having " highly dis¬
tinguished himself; " afterwards present at the relief of Azimghur and subsequent operations at Jugdespore
• (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
'<«> Lt.General Yonge served with the Queen's Royals throughout Lord Keane's campaign in Affghanistan and
Beloochistaii, and was severely wounded at the storming of Ghuzuee (Medal). He served also the campaign in
the Southern Mahratta countrj' in 1844 (including the storm of the fortress of I'unella), and that of the Concan
in 1845.
'"" Lt.General Meyrick served in the Crimea from 30th Dec. 1854, and was present at the siege and fall of
Sebastopol (Medal with one Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
1* Lt.General Prettejohn served with the Wing of the 14th Light Dragoons in the campaign in the Southern
Mahratta country in 1844-45, anil was present at the investment and capture of the fortreases of Panella and Pown-
ghur. Also throughout the" Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the action of Ramnuggur with the charging
Squadrons, passage of the Chenab, battles of Chillianwallah and Goojerat, pursuit of the enemy across the Jhelum
and of the Affghans over the Indus through the Khyber Pass (Jiedal with two Chisps). Served with the Persian
