Also with the Central India Field Force under Sir Hua-h Rose in 1857-58. and was present at the siege and capture
of Eahutghur, action of Barodia, relief of Sangor, capture of Garrakota. forcing the Muddenpore Pass (wounded),
battle of Betwa, in command of the three Troops actually engaged (horse wounded in two places), siege and
capture of the town and fortress of Jhausi, battle of Koonch, and commanded the Right Wing of the 14th Light
Dragoons in the pursuit, affairs during the advance on Calpee, capture of Calpee, action of Morar and recapture
of the town and fortress of Gwalior and pursuit ending in the action of Jowra Allipore. in command of the
Squadron, action of Ranode in command of the only Squadron present—severely wounded (four times mentioned
in desnatches, Brevets of Major and Lt.Colonel, Medal with two Clasps).
1" Lt.General Baring served in the Eastern campaign of 1854. including the battle of Alma (severely wounded
—arm amputated). Rejoined the ist Battalion before Sebastopol on the 12th May 1S55 and served with it until afier
the fall of the place (JBrevet of Major, Medal with two Clasps, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the
Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
'1° Lt.General Hill served with the 95th Hegiment the Eastern campaign of 1854 and up to the 28th March 1855,
including the battles of Alma and Inkermau, siege of Sebastopol, a.nd sortie on the 26th Oct. (Medal with three
Clasps, and Turkish Medal). Accompanied the Naval expedition under Commodore Wise, to the great Scareies River,
in January and was present on the ist and 2nd Feb. 1858 at the bombardment and destruction of the towns of Kam-
bia, Royberry, Towyah, Macauka, Tanka Mars, and Karstalla, also was present with the Military Naval and expedi¬
tion, at the storming of the war fences at Kambia, and the bombardment and destruction of the town of Gballah, on
the 23rd and 24th March 1S59; commanded the Left Division of the Force employed against the King of Baddiboo, up
the River Gambia, in Feb. 1861, composed of the Left Wing of his Regiment, the Royal Gambia Militia Artillery, and
a battery of French Artillery—was on board H.M.S. Torch and Dover at the bombardment of the enemy's works
on the banks of the Swarracunda Creek on i6th Feb. 1861. Commanded the landing party, consisting of Detach¬
ments ist and 2nd W. I. Regiments, and at the storming and capture of the enemy's entrenched works, was
present at the storming capture and destruction of the fortified towns of Carawan on the 17th, of Kinty Cunda and
Saba on the i8th February; was also present at the battle of Saba. and the stonning capture and total destruction of
the enemy's stockades on" the 2TStFeb. 1861. Commanded the Troops engaged against the King of Quiah; was
present at the capture and destruction of Massongha on loth Dec, also at the storming and destruction of the
stockades and war fences at Madonkia on 19th Dec. 1861 (severely wounded), and accompanied the expedition up
the Ribbie river 17th Jan. 1862 (Brevet of Lt.Colonel).
1" Lt.Genernl Cureton served with the i6th Lancers in the action at Maharajpore 20thDec. 1843 (BronzeStar\
Served with the 3rd Light Dragoons during the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46. including the battles of Moodkee
(severely wounded) and Sobraon (Medal and one Clasp). Sei-ved with the 12th Lancers in the Kaffir war of 1851-53
(Medal)'; and also in the Crimea from 31st July 1855, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and at Eupatoria
(Medal with Clasp and Turkish Medal).
"2 Sir Roger Palmer sen'cd the Eastern campaign of 1854. and up to 26th August 1855 with the nth Hussars, in¬
cluding the affair of Bulganak, battles of Alma, Balaklava, and Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with four
Clasps, and Turkish Medal).
"3 Sir Seymour John Blane served with the Scots Fusilier Guards throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55,
including the battles of Balaklava and Inkerman (wounded), siege and fall of Sebastopol, and sortie of the 26th Oct.
(Medal with three Clasps, Sardinian and Turkish Meda.ls, and 5th Class of the Medjidie). Served as Brigade Major
to General Nicholson at the defeat of the Sealkote mutineers at Goodaspore on the 12th and i6th July 1857, action
at Nujjufghur, siege and assault of Delhi,—three times mentioned in despatches and in General orders by the
Go7emor General (Brevets of Major and Lt.Colonel, Medal with Clasp).
"'Lt.General Gubbins served the Eastern campaign of 1854 as Aide de Camp to Sir De Lacy Evans, includ¬
ing the battles of Ahna and Inkennan (severely wounded) and siege of Sebastopol (Brevet of Major, Medal with
three Clasps, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
"5 Lt.General Goodlake served throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battles of Alma,
Inkennan, Balaklava, and Tchernaya, and siege and fall of Sebastopol. He volunteered for the Sharpshooters of
the Brigade of Guards, commanded them for 42 days, and was engaged at the repulse of the sortie of 26th October
1854; and he served on the Quarter Master General's Staff from Feb. 1855 (Medal with four Clasps, Brevet of
Major, Victoria Cross, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Clats of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
"" Lt.General J. C. Rattray served with the 90th Light Infantry in the Crimea from the 4th Dec. 1854, including
the siege and fall of Sebastopol, was severely wounded at the assault of the Redan on the 8th September (Medal with
Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served also during the Indian campa.ign of 1857-58, and was present with Havelock's
Column at the relief and subsequent defence of Lucknow (twice mentioned in despatches), defence of the AJumbagh
under Outram, and capture of Lucknow by Lord Clyde (Medal with Clasp, and a year's service).
"' Lt.General F. L. Whitmore landed in the (Crimea with the 2nd Battalion ist Royals on 22nd Apr.1855, and was
at the siege and fall of Sobastopol (Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
"8 It.General F. W. Burroughs served with the 93rd Highlanders throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55,
including the battles of Alma and Balaklava, expedition to Kertch and Yenikale, siege and fall of Sebastopol, and
assaults of the iSth June and 8th September (Medal with three Clasps, Turkish Medal, and 5th Class of the Medjidie).
Served also in the Indian campaign in 1857-58, inclu'Ung the relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde, the storming'of the
Secundrabagh .and of the Shahnujeev (was the first through the breach at the Secundrabagh and was slightly
wounded on the head by a tulwar cut), battle of Cawuoore on 6th Dec. and pursuit to Seraighat, action of Khoda-
gunge, storming of the Beegum Khotee and capture of Lucknow—severely wounded (Brevet of Major, Medal with
two Clasps). Served with the Euzofzai Field Force in the campaien against the Boneyrs and other mountain tribes
on the N.W. Frontier of India in Dec. 1863, and conmianded the Regiment whilst encamped in the Umbeyla Pass
(mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp).
"' Lt.General F. G. T, Deshon served with the 22nd Regt. in Scinde, and was present at the battle of
Hyderabad (Medal). He served also the campaign in the Southern Mahratta country in 1844-45, and was present
at the investment and capture of the Forts of Panulla and Pownghur. as also in the operations against the Forts
of Munnahur and Munsontoeh in the Southern Concan. Landed in the Crimea with the 48th Regt. on 21st Ayiril
1855, and served at.the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and commanded a portion of the Regiment detached on duty
in the Dockyard from 14th January to 14th March 1856 (Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major, 5th Class of the
Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
'21 Lt.General Wombwell served with the 46th Regt. atthesiegeof Sebastopol in 1854-55 (Medal with Clasp, Brevet
of Major, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkisli Medal).
12' Lt.General Tyrwhitt served the Eastern campaign of 1854 as Aide de Camp to the Duke of Cambridge, and was
present at the battles of Alma and Inkerman, and siege of Sobastopol (Medal with three Clasps, Knight of the
Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
