21' Lt. Colonel S. F. M. T. Grant was employed with the Southern Jliihratta Field Force from 5th March 1858 in com¬
mand of a detachment of the 47th Madras N J., andfrom May to December 1838 served with the North Canara Field
Force emploj'ed against the rebels under the Sawunt Wan-ie Dessaes, and commanded for eight months the outpost
ofCoisseeonthe Goa Frontier, occupied by the 47th Detachment and a detachment of the 35th Madras N.I. (Medal).
^^" Lt.Colonel R.H.Cunlifi'e was employed in suppressing the insurrection in the Pariah Kimedy district in 1856-57.
^-^ Lt.ColonelH.Watson was employed on field service with the Kamptee Movable Column in the Saugorand Ner-
budda Territories and P.aepore district from i7tli July 1857 to 30th April 1858, and was present at the affairs at
Balakote, Nursinghur, Patun, Junapanee, and KhoneePass, and the engagement at Kuttengee—slightly wounded
(Medal).
2^^ Lt.Colonel N. Swanston commanded the K Company Sappers and Miners in the North China Expedition in
i860, and was present at the actions of Sinho and Tangkoo, the capture of the Takoo Forts, and at Pekin from
6th to 26th October (Medal with two Clasps).
^2' Lt.Colonel R. A. Walters served with the Kurnool Movable Column and Saugor Field Division, and was pre¬
sent at a skirmish with the rebels at Seehora on the 2nd March 185B—severe wound by a musket-ball on the thigh
(Medal with Clasn).
^^* Lt.Colonel H. St. M.Wynch was employed insuppressing the insurrection in the Pariah Kimedy district in 1856
and 1857. Served against the Hill Tribes in the Rajahmmidiy district in September and October 1857, and received
a contusion from a matchlock-ball. Employed with the Sappers in 1859 in quelling the rebellion in Bengal (Medal).
''■'° Lt.Colonel Way served in the 35th Madras Native Infantry in the Burmese war in 1852-53, and was present at
the capture of Prorne (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).
^'- Lt.Colonel Caulfeild served in the 35th Madras Native Infantry in the North Canara campaign, from March to
Dec. 1858, and was present in various skirmishes with the rebels.
^^^ Lt.Colonel F. H. Thompson served with the Saugor Field Force iniSsS, and was present at the battle ofBanda,
relief of Kirwee, and storming the Heights of Punwaree (Medal).
^^ Lt. Colonel A. A. Johnson served in the Malwa campaign, and the campaign in Central India, and was present at
the capture of Peepliah, cavalry action at Rawul, battles of Mundisore and Gorora, aifair at Barab near Saugor,
battle of Midnapoor, capture of the fort of Talbehut, siege of Jhansi 21st of March to 7th April 1858, battle of the
Betwa, affair at Kotah, battles of Koonch and Golumbee, taking of Calpee, battle of Morar, and capture of Gwalior,
accompanied the field force which proceeded against Tantia Topee and was present in the action against a large
body of Rohillas at Chichmunba on 15th January 1859 (Medal with Clasp).
235 Lt.Colonel E. R. C. Bradford served with the 14th Light Dragoons in the Persian campaign from 21st of February
till 8th June 1857; served in the Jubbulpore district during 1857, and afterwards in the North-Western Provinces
in 1858—with General Michel's Force in Mayne's Horse against Tantia Topee in 1858; present at the general
action of Scindwha and the action and pursuit at Karai. Served with General Napier's Columns in Mayne's Horse
from December 1858 to September 1859, and was present in several actions with the enemy (twice thanked in
despatches, Medal).
''^ Lt.Colonel T. Weldon was employed on field service in the Raichore Doab from 4th June to 5th August 185S.
*'" Lt.Colonel T.Obbard served during the campaign in Bengal, and was present at the engagement of Seerowlie,
at the action of Ghurra, the reocoupation of Hummeerpore, and at the engagement and destruction of Lallijore
(Medal).
*^ Lt.Colonel R. A. Cole was employed in suppressing the insurrection in the Pariah Kimedy district in 1836-57.
^■" Lt.ColonelA. T. Cox served in the Burmese war in 1852-53 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Commanded two com¬
panies during the greater part of the North Canara campaign, which extended from March to December 1858, and
was present in one skirmish and various pursuits.
^*^ Lt.Colonel S. H.Williams accompanied the small force from Quilon to Cochin in Jan. 1857,10 aid the Civil Power.
''" Lt.Colonel C. H.Plowden served with Major General Whitlock's Force during the suppression of the mutiny
in Bengal in 1858-59, was present at the surrender of the rebel Narrain Rao of Kirwee 6th June 1858, and in action
at Girwassah on the banks of the Scinde river i6th December 1858 (Medal).
^*^ Lt.Colonel E. S. Berkeley was present with the Cavalry portion of the force under Lt.Colonel Brice at the attack
on the Residency of Hyderabad on 17th July 1857.
2*'' Lt.Colonel G. Murray served with the Military Train throughout the expedition in North China fi'om 2sth April
to 14th December i860, and was present at the attack on the entrenched camp in rear of the Taku forts, and at
the surrender of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
2*^ Lt.Colonel W.Stoddard was employed on field service in the Saugor andNcrbudda Territories in the suppres¬
sion of the Indian mutiny from 9th February 1858.
2=° Lt.Colonel W. S. Bailey served in the suppression of the mutiny in Bengal in 1857; commanded a detach¬
ment against the rebels at Allahabad (wounded on board the Berhamvooier steamer) under Major Spurgin, which
covered the flank of Havelock's Column from Allahabad to Cawnpore; present with Havelock's Force at the aciiions
of Aoung, Busseeinitgunge (ist and 2nd), Boorjeakee Chowkee, and Bithoor; cros-sed into Oude on 19th September
and present at the actions of Mungawar and Alumljagh, and the entry into Lucknow on the 25th September—
severely wounded at the storming of the Char Bagh bridge on that day; besieged in the Residency till 2 2ud Novem¬
ber 1857 (Medal with Clasp, and a year's service).
^5' Lt.Colonel Gabbott served with Brigadier Smith's pursuing Column from December 1858 to April 1839,
and was present at the defeat of the rebels at Baroda (Medal).
252 Lt.Colonel B. W. Broughton commanded a company during the North Canara campaign from August to No¬
vember, and a detachment of two companies till the end of December 1858, and commanded a party in pursuit of
rebels for three days.
25" Lt.Colonel J. Picton-Warlow commanded a detachment during the disturbances in Pariah Kimedy in 183^,
was actively employed against the insurgents in the Sunibulpore district in 1858, and received the thanks of the
Bengal Government for his services.
25* Lt.Colonel G. Tyndall served with the Madras Rifles 1857-58 in quelling the mutiny in India, and with the force
under Major General Whitlockin 1859 (Medal).
255 Lt.Colonel K. Faunce was employed in the suppression of the mutiny in India in 1S57-58, and accompanied the
detachment from the Dorundah Field Force under the command of Major G. G. Macdonnell to act against the insur¬
gents of Palimow; was present with the force for restoring and maintaining peace in the Chota Nagpore district in
1857-58 (Medal).
256 Lt.Oolonel T. K. Guthrie served in the N. W. Provinces of Bengal and Central India from October 1837 to
January i860, with the Madras Rifles; present at tbe taking of Kotte and Shergundy, and :affair in the bed of
the Jumna near the latter town; at the surprise and action of Gurrah, the reoccupationofHummerpoorand subse¬
quent pursuit of rebels across the Doab; present at an attack on rebels at Entowa, in April 1839, when they were
defeated and lost their camp and baggage; employed in several minor expeditions, and in guarding the KalUnger.

257 Lt.Colonel C.M'Inroy served in the Indian mutiny campaign, and was present with General Whitlock's Force-
at the surrender of Kirwee. Joined the Sikh Mourned Police in Aug. 1858, and was pi esent in the action at Snhao
(mentioned in despatches). Commanded in Cavalry actions of Maharajpore, Jaccoli, and Mow Mahori. Com¬
manded escort to the guns during the action at Girwassah (mentioned several times in despatches. Medal with
Clasp). Employed in disarming the Banda district in 1859-60. Commanded a Division of the Transport Train
in the Abyssinian campaign (thanked in despatches for the " extent and value of his assistance," Medal).
258 Lt.Colonel T. H. B. Brooke served with the expedition to China from 24th February 1857 to 3°th January 1859.
