s«» Major A. M. Lys was employed in suppressing the insurrection in the Pariah Kimedy district in 1856 and 1857.
s^o Major E. A. Wood was present with the North Canara Field Force in 1859.
^^ Major H. T. Harris was present against a body of Rohillas on the banks of the Kishna river in Feb. 1859.
"* Major T. Higginson served on the North-West Frontier of India in the expedition against the Bezotee Tribe
in February i86g, and was mentioned in despatches and thanked by the Government of India. Served also with
theMeranzieValley Field Force in April 1869. Served in the Afghan war in 1878-9 with the Candahar Column,
and was present in the affair at Baghao (mentioned in Major Keen's report, Medal). Commanded the ist Punjab
Infantry in the Wuzeeree Expedition in 1881.
278 Major J. B. Leggett was employed with the Bellary Movable Column in 1858.
*" Lt.Colonel C. Hayter was employed in 1857-39 in Bengal, and served with the Shahabad Field Force under
Brigadier Douglas, and accompanied Captain Place with a party of one subadar and 25 sepoys, and -by stratagem
surprised the rebel post of Maindoorah and captured 26 boats 7'th August 185S ; present at the taking of Suhar on
the left bank of the Soane and destruction of the rebel boats on the 21st August, again at the destruction of that town
on the 20th September, at the taking of Noorpoor, Surragah, and Turcole, when those towns and several boats
were destroyed (Medal). Served with the eastern Bhootan Field Force in 1865-66 (Medal with Clasp). Also against
the Naga Hill Tribes in 1867.
^^ Major L. B. Bance was present at the capture of Copul on the ist June 1858. Served with the Bellary Movable
Column under Brigadier Spottiswoode in 1858.
**i Lt.Colonel G. C. Bird sei-ved in the North Canara campaign from March to December 1858, and was present in
various skirmishes and pursuits.
282 Major E. W. Shaw was employed in the suppression of the Indian mutiny in 1857-59, and was present at
Bunnee with force forming rear guard of Commander in Chief's Army during the capture of Lucknow; also present
at the affair of Dobriah and commanded a detachment of his regiment at Hurrj'ah on the 29th August 1858, also at
Doomeragunge on 26th November 1858, under Brigadier Rowcroft, also at Burreeah on the 3rd December 1858 ;
present at the battl e of Toolsepore (Medal).
285 Majors J. B. Taylor and J. A. Richmond served with field detachments on the Hyderabad Frontier from
i6th November 1858 to 12th March 1859.
28« Major W. S. Macleod served with a Squadron of the ist Dragoon Guards during the campaign of i860 in
China.
285 Major C. A. Porteous was employed in the suppression of the Indian mutiny in 1857-59, and was present at
Kanta, at Bunnee with the force forming the rear guard of the Commander in Chief's Array during the capture of
Lucknow, present at Bansee on the 22nd and 28th September 1858, at Chittrah on the 30th September 1858, at two
other affairs on the 9th and 20th October 1858, and at Doomeragunge on the 13th September 1858 ; served with the
force under Major General Whitlock in Bundlecimd, and present vrith the detachment which proceeded in March
1859 under Brigadier Faddy against Runmust Singh (Medal with two Clasps).
288 Major C. J. O. Chambers served in the suppression of the mutiny in Bengal with Major General Whitlock's
Force in 1858, was present with the reserve during the action at Girwassah i6th December 1858. Engaged with the
rebels in the Ballaput Jungle 26th August 1859 (Medal).
28» Major M. Furlong was present at the capture of Copul on the ist June 1858. With the Bellary Field Force
under Colonel Spottiswoode.
^^ Major E. G. V. HoUoway served with the Corps of Observation under Sir James Outram at the Alumbagh
from 25th February till April 1858, and was present at the siege and capture of Lucknow (Medal with Clasp).
291 Major W. O. Foord was employed with a field force from 5th March 1858, and engaged with a small party of
the rebels on the 2nd October 1858.
292 Majors C. J. O. Fitzgerald and F. S. FitzPatrick were employed on field service in the Raichore Doab from
4th June to 5th August 1858.
2'3 Major H. F. H. Sewell was actively employed during the mutiny against the insurgents in the Sumbulpoor
districts in 1858.
2"* Major W. R. Sheffield was employed on field service in the Saugor and Nerbudda Territories, in the sup¬
pression of the Indian mutiny from 6th February 185S; present in the action of Punwarree 2gth December 1858
(Medal).
291' Major C. T. P. Luxmoore served in the suppression of the mutiny in Bengal in 1857-58. With Sir J. Outram's
Corps of Observation at the Alumbagh, and at the capture of Luckuow; served with Sir Hope Grant's Division
during his campaign in Oude, from June to Deoember 1858; present at the passage of the Goomtee river at
Sultanpore and other minor affairs; and with Major Raikes' Field Column which engaged and repulsed the enemy
at Shahpore, Oude, on the 13th October (Medal and Clasp).
298 Major T.R. Tabuteau served with the ist Madras Fusiliers in the suppression of the Bengal mutiny in 185S,
including the Oudo campaign and an affair at the fort of Koli (Medal). Served with the 3rd Bombay Native
Infantry in the Abyssinian Expedition in 1868 (Medal).
299 Lt.Colonel W. Coniugham served with a column of observation on the banks of the Wurdah River for the
Biipression of disturbances in the Nizam's dominion in conjunction with a column under Sir Hugh Rose from isi to
oth March 1859 (Medal).
3™ Major G. Chrystie was employed on field service in the Saagor and Nerbudda Territories, in the suppression
of the Indian mutiny from 20th June 1858; served with the Field Detachment under Brigadier Wheeler and
Colonel Reeee in the Saugor districts in November and December 1S58, and in Bundlecund in January and
February 1839.
8»2 Major C. J. T.Whitlock was employed with the Saugor Field Divisionin the SaugorandNerbudda Territories,
in the suppression of the Indian mutiny from 31st October 1858 ; served as Aide de Camp to Major General Whitlock
commanding the division from 6th April 1859 to the breaking up of the force on 31st December 1859 (Medal)
™3 Major F. J. Wroughton served with the field force in Bundlecund under Major General Whitlock.
3"' Major H. H. H. itallett served with Major General Whitlock's Field Force in Bundlecund from April to 29th
December 1859.
'O' Major E. S. Ludlow served with the Saugor Field Division in 1859.
8"' Major H. Portoous was employed in suppressing the Khond outbreak in Boad in May and June 1862. Was
on field service in Ungool and AutmuUick in the Gurghauty of Orissa from, ist May till 3rd June 1863.
8<" Lt.Colonel J. M'MuUiu served with the 59th Foot at the operations before Canton and at its capture in 1857
(Medal with Clasp).
'"^ Captain E. Quin served with the 33rd Regiment throughout the Abyssinian campaign of 1867-68, and was
present at the storming and capture of Magdala (Medal).
8" Major R.G. B. Dalrymple served in the Abyssinian campaign, and was present at the capture of Magdala
(Medal).
813 Lieut. Downing served with the 72nd Highlanders from the commencement of the Afghan war in 1878 till
June 1879 with the Koorum Field Force, including the Khost expedition and the engagement at Mattoon (Medal).
31* Lieut. Preston served with the 51st Light Infantry in the Jowaki campaign in 1877 (Medal with Clasp)..
