" Major General J. Cockburn Hood served in|thePunjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the first and second siege
Operations before Mooltan, capture of the city, and action of Soroojkhoond (Modal with Clasp). Served also in the
Indian mutiny campaign in i8=;8 ; commanded a Wing of the ist Punjaub Infantry in operations under Brigadier
General Showers, including the capture of the Fort of Jhujjur, also present in the action of Shumshabad, siege and
capture of Lucknow and storming of the Begum's Palace, and dangerously wounded when commanding 4th Pun¬
jaub Infantry in assault on the final position held by the Moulvie (mentioned in despatches, Modal with Clasp, and
Brevet of Major). Commanded the 4th Punjanb Infantry at the surprise of Besotee village of Gera 25th Feb. 1869.
Has twice received the thanks of the Lt.Governor of the Punjaub for services, and the especial thanks of the
Governor General in Council for services in the field, 17th April 1869.
51 Colonel P. F. Gardiner served against the rebels North of Jullunderin 1848-49, and was pre.sent at the
stor.ning of the heights of Umb, and occupation of the fort of Donah (Punjaub Medal).
">' Major General W.D. Morgan served in the Punjaub campaign of 1S48-49, including the action of Ramnuggur
(Medal).' Served also in the Indian mutiny campaign's of 1857-59, as Brigade Major with the Sarun and Gorruckpore
Field Forces, and was present at the actions of Sohunpore, Phoolpore, Betwa, Amorah, Doomoeragunge, Toolsepore,
and Siewa (several times mentioned in despatches, thanked by the Governor General, Medal, and Brevet of
Major).
'"* Colonel H. R. Drew served throughout the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, and was present at the first and
second siege operations before Mooltan (severely wounded), including the attack on the Dhurmsala and action of
Soroojkhoond, afterwards present at the battle of Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps).
1" Colonel J. Marquis served in Bundlecund with the 3rd Bengal N.I. during the insurrection in 1842-43 ; and
as Adjutant of the Regiment served with General Wheeler's Column in the Punjaub campaign in 1848-49 including
the assault and capture of the heights of Dulla (Medal). Also with the force against the Hussanzaies in 1852
(Medal with Cllasp). Served at the siege and storm of Delhi in 1857 ; and at the assault and final capture of the cSx.y
acted as 2nd in Command of the 2nd Puujaub Infantry (Medal with Clasp). Bhootan campaign of 1865
(Clasp).
"" Sir C. C. G. Ross served with the Expeditionary Force against the Hill Tribes in the vicinity of Peshawur in
1S51-52, and with that of 1853, and was present at the action of Skakote (Medal with Clasp). Served throughout
the Indian mutiny, present at the defence of Kumahon, commanded the 66th Goorkha Regiment in the action of
Churppoorah, and in the subsequent campaign (mentioned in despatches. Brevet of Major, Medal). Comcnanded
the Perozepore Regiment throughout the Uraiioyla campaign (Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Clasp).
'="' Brigadier General W. Gordon served the Punjaub campaigns of 1848-49 as Assistant Field Engineer and com,
manded a Company of Pioneers at the siege and capture of Mooltan, including the surrender of the fort of Chineote-
and two Companies of Pioneers at the battle of Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps).
128 Colonel C. Lyons-Montgomerj' served in the Chota Nagpore districts during the mutinies in 1857; and
with Jung Bahadoor's force in 1858 ; present at the passage of the Gogra and at the battle of Phoolpore (Medal).
'3^ Colonel F. Alexander served as Adjvitant of the Artiller.y Division with the expeditionary force under Sir
Charles Napier against the Hill Tribes in Sind in 1845. Served throughout the Punjauh campaign of 1848-49, and
was present at the ist and 2nd siege operations before Mooltan including the affair of Dhurmsala, action of
Soorjkhoond, and storming of the suburbs; afterwards present at the battle of Goojerat (Medal with two
Clasps).
i" Major General T. Wright served throughout the Punjaub campaign of.1848-49,including the actions of Ram¬
nuggur, Sadoolapore, Chillianwallah, and Goojerat (Medal'with two Clasps). Served as Assistant Adjutant General
and chief Staff Officer with the force under Sir Sydney Cotton in the Eusofzie expedition of 1S58 (mentioned in
despa,tche8. Medal with Clasp). Served in the Indian mutiny campaign in command of the 2nd Sikh Cavalry in
Central India and defeated a body of the enemy in Bundlecund (mentioned in despatches. Medal). Served as
Assistant Adjutant General throughout the Umbeyla campaign of 1863 (mentioned in despatches. Brevet of
Lt.Colonel, and Clasp) ; and in the same capacity with the field force under Major General Tytler during the
operations of 1865-66in Bhootan (Clasp).
i*'' Colonel G. B. Mainwaring served the Gwalior campaign, including the battle of Mahar.ijpare (Bronze Star).
Served also throughout the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46, including the battles of Moodkee, Ferozoshah, and Sobraon
(Medal and two Clasps).
i« Brigadier General J. Doran served in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46. including the battles of Moodkee and
Ferozeshah (Medal and one Clasp). Served in the expedition against the Hussanzaies on the Black Mountain in
Hazara in 1852-53 (Medal with Clasp). Also the campaign of 1S58-59 in Oude (Medal). Served with the expeditionary
force in China in i860 (Medal).
'" Colonel H.S. Obbard served in Bundleeund in 1842-43. Also in the Punjaub campaign in 1849. Present
at the mutiny of the Native Troops at Jullander in June 1857 and accompanied the pursuing Column when the
mutineers passed Loodianah. Assisted in raising the 21st Punjaub Infantry of which he commanded a wing and
a troop of Pathan Cavalry in thie Googaria District during the rebellicm of the Kurals in October 1857 (Medal).
i" Colonel C. F. Hicks served during the Sutlej campaign. Present with the 6th Bengal Native Infantry when
it mutinied at AUahaliad on the 6th Juno 1857. Commanded a detachment of Irregular Cavalry during the opera¬
tions in the vicinity of Allahabad, and afterwards served as a volunteer in Ilavelock's Cavalrj- throughout the
operations of that force (Medal).
">" Colonel H. C. Anderson served in the Sutloj campaign of 1845-46, including the battle of Ferozeshah
(Medal). Served also in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1857-58 (Brevet of Major, and Medal).
1'" Colonel J. I. Murray served in the Punjaub campaign of 1B48-49 (Medal). Served throughout the Indian
mutiny campaigns of 1857-59 ; present at the battle of Shahgunge ; Commanded Rajah Gobind Sing's Jat Horse
at the battle of AUyghur (mentioned in despatches " for conspicuous gallantry," wounded, and charger wounded) ;
eerved as a volunteer at the battle of Agra ; employed in Nov. and Dec. 1857 in I'aising the Jat Horso and in restor¬
ing order in the Allyghur and Etah districts; commanded at the Cavalry engagements at Kutchla Ghaut and
defeated with 200 sabres of the Jat Horse 600 Irregular Cavalry mutineers, and held the Rohilcund rebel army in
check till the arrival of General Penny's Force on the nth March 1848 ; in April, May, and June with the Jat Hi^rso
guarded successfully the Ghauts on the Ganges in the Allyghur and Etah districts against the Rohilcund rebels ;
commanded the Regt. throughout the second Oude campaign and the operations on the Nepaul frontier, including the
action near Bootwal, attack on the rebels in the hills, and defeat of the Nusseerabad rebel brigade at Durreahpore ;
commanded a Column in the final operations on the Nepaul frontier (Medal, Brevet of Major, and repeatedly thanked
by the Commander in Chief and the Government).
iss Colonel G. S. Macbean served with the force against the Boree Affreedees in 1853 (Medal with Clasp).
Accompanied the advance force from Allahabad in June 1857 and served with Havelock's Force from its first taking
the field in July, and was present at the actions of Futtehpore, Aoung, Pandoo Nuddee, Cawiipore, Oonao, Busee-
rutgunge (both actions), Boorbeake-Chowkee, Bithoor, Mungarwar, Alumbaugh, relief of the Garrison of Lucknow,
and defence of the Residency; subsequent siege and capture of Lucknow, affairs of Rooyah and Allygunge, Rohil¬
cund campaign, and recapture of Bareilly (mentioned in despatches, thanked by Government, Medal with two
Clasps, and Brevet of Major, and a year's service).
'*■ Colonel J. I. Willes served under Sir Charles Napier against the hill tribes in Sind in 1845. Served also
in the Punjnub campaign of 1848-49 (Medal).
"* Colonel G. W. Fraser served in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46 (Medal).
"= Colonel H. M. Boddam served during the Burmese war of 1852-53 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Also
against the insurgent Santhals from July to December 1855.
202 Colonel A, Pond served in the Sutlej campaign of 1S45-46, including the action of Aliwal (Medal). Served
also in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1857-58,and present at the action near Agra with the Neemuch mutineers
(wounded), and at an engagement with the rebels at the village of Chawhowlee, which was surprised, captured, and
destroyed. Commanded a Wing of the 3rd Europeans at the caijture and destruction of a village 30 miles from
Agra. Present at the battle of Agra. Commanded four companies of Europeans at the taking of Futtehjicre
Sikreo, as also when the pisition of Shereghur Ghat was secured, when 1500 rebels were driven through the ravines
and across the river, and held the Ghat in action for five or six hours (Medal).
