EXAMINATIONS OF PERSONS UNDER SPIRITUAL CONCERN II
words Bind ye unto y’ horns wt cords y’sacrifice181 fell into such a frame as
I knew not whether I was in heaven or Earth and I got a clear faiths view of
y’ocean of the Redeemers blood shed for the remission of Sins I was filled
with unspeakable love & joy and sank down upon my seat and my heart was
full of praise & thanksgiving I continued in this frame for a little while. And
while I was continuing in this heavenly frame after I came home I suppose
more than a fourthnight a Temptatio fiery dart came into my mind calling
to me [616/-] tempting me to doubt if there was God and it was urged if
there was a God how has he a begining. I was put all in to confusion And
greatly affrighted with such thoughts but I resolved to seek the Lord and his
face and to trust to his power to ridd me of it and I was keept a wrestling
agt it & beging for deliverance. I got no rest for the space of six [ ]19 days nor
night for it hanuting me when it was Evening I wished for the Morning [ ]20
& when it was morning I wished for y’ Evening expecting the relief then. I
bless y Lord I was helped to wrestle &trust he would come and deliver me
and one day yt word was brought into my Mind I will wait upon y' Lord and
I got some more strength and sometime after this I felt Relief-eame-by means
was on a Munday on the Sabbath before []21 I heard My Parish Minr on y'
words in Eel: it shall be well with the Righteous but it shall be ill with the
wicked22 and He gave the Marks of the Righteous and I got liberty to apply
them to my self which was very comforting to Me. After Sermons Satan
came upon me strongly tempting Me to destroy my Child I was helped to
say in faith My God will never leave Me to do that that night I had strong
hopes I would get relief from this & my former temptations that night but it
came not that very night My body was refreshed wt sleep but when I awoke
I was not refreshed in Spirit I fell asleep again in the morning and had sweet
meditations in my sleep upon the precious blood of Christ and when I awaked
out of this sleep these words came with power Behold he and he only is the
Mighty God the Lord23 and at this time all y Promises Ever I had got came
fresh into My Mind and I was strengthned to rely by faith on the merits of
Christ and my heart was filled wt love And I was not [617/—] haunted wt that
temptation. Sometime after this as I was one day going to my secret duty a
great fear came upon me that I had might be grieving the Spirit of the Lord
and that but I was sure I thought if I was doing so it was not wittingly in
Me and then These words came in with great sweetness and gave Me great
