LETTERS OF POPE BENEDICT XIII
Tortosa, n Kal. Feb., anno 20; expedited, 11 Kal. Sept., anno 20
[22 Aug., 1414].
15 March, 1414 Reg Aven 344, 643V-644
To Alexander de Carnys, secular provost of the collegiate church
of Lincluden, Glasgow diocese, m.a. Indult for Alexander, chaplain
and secretary to Archibald, earl of Douglas, Glasgow diocese, to
hold certain incompatible benefices for a period of five years.
Alexander, holding the said provostry, which is a principal dignity
with cure, and a canonry and prebend in the collegiate church of
Dunbar, St Andrews diocese, had been dispensed to hold along with
these one other benefice with or without cure, incompatible with
the provostry even if an elective dignity with cure or a parish
church, with powers of exchange outside the curia as often as he
pleased for two incompatible benefices provided they were not two
parish churches, two major or principal dignities in cathedral or
collegiate churches, or one major and the other a principal dignity;
but within three years of his peaceful assecution to such an incom¬
patible benefice he had been held to exchange one or the other for
compatible benefices otherwise at the end of the three years he
had been held to demit one of them; but as he obtained the church
of Suchak, and three years have elapsed this extension is granted.
Tortosa, Id. Mar., anno 20; expedited, Non. Maii, anno 20 [7 May,
1414].
19 March, 1414 Reg Aven 343, 148V-149V
To William Croyser, clerk, St Andrews diocese, m.a. Provision of
William, familiar of Archibald, earl of Douglas, Glasgow diocese,
to hold in commendam the parish church of Kyrkgonen which is
united to the monastery of Holm, o.cist., Carlisle diocese, situated
in schismatical territory, value not exceeding ^20 old sterling to a
non-resident. On the death outside the curia of William MacMorin,
who then held the said church in commendam, William, bishop of
Glasgow, commended Duncan de Strevylyng, priest, St Andrews
diocese, by ordinary authority to hold it in the same way; but he
doubted the validity of his tenure and mandatory letters were given
to the provost of Lyncloudon, Glasgow diocese, to examine Duncan,
