6 June, 1410 Reg Aven 334, 327-8
To the abbot of Kilwinning, the precentor of Glasgow and Bernard
Fortis, canon of Segorbe. Mandate to collate Robert de Conyngham,
Glasgow diocese, b.dec., kinsman of James, king of Scots, and of
Robert, duke of Albany, governor of the realm, to the vicarage of
the parish church of Glaston, Glasgow diocese, value 30 merks old
sterling to a non-resident, vacant by the death outside the curia of
Thomas Hedwy, former vicar. Clement vn had granted to the
bishop of Dunblane, the abbot of Paisley, and the official of Glasgow,
all unnamed, the right to provide persons nominated by Robert,
late king of Scots to 12 benefices in each of the cathedral churches
of the cities and dioceses of Scotland, and subsequently John, abbot
of Paisley, reserved a benefice to Robert, nominated by the aforesaid
king, who accepted the benefice when it became vacant within the
lawful time. Robert, however, doubted the validity of his provision
and acceptance, but his rights are confirmed whether the church is
vacant as above or because Thomas had held the church without a
dispensation notwithstanding his defect of birth as the son of a
priest and an unmarried woman. Robert is furthermore dispensed
to hold the church notwithstanding his defect of birth as the son of
unmarried parents.
