To William Nory, prior of May. Provision of William, canon of
the church of St Andrews, to the priory of May, value not exceeding
-£100 sterling to a non-resident. On the death outside the curia of
the former prior, Robert de Luchrys, William on the strength of
papal letters reserving him a benefice in the gift of the bishop of
St Andrews and the prior and chapter of the said church, claimed
the priory of May and was peacefully assecuted to it. Subsequently
William being in Avignon had resigned the priory through a certain
lawfully constituted procurator into the hands of the bishop of St
Andrews who admitted the resignation by ordinary authority,
although James de Haudanston calling himself a canon of the above
church had unlawfully detained the priory for more than a year and
five months. William, however, who had studied canon law at
Avignon for several years, is now granted provision to the said
priory, an elective benefice with cure thus vacant, and on his peace¬
ful assecution to the said priory his letter of reservation is to become
invalid.
