license from the ordinary of the diocese or any other, to be served
by a perpetual vicar with a portion suitable for his sustenance and
the payment of any dues. A dispute had arisen over the said church
between the abbot and convent and Symon de Mandavilla, arch¬
deacon of Glasgow [as in Reg Aven 329, 414-15, above p 172],
which had been settled by Symon ceding his rights to the church
into the hands of Stephen Laboria, papal chaplain and auditor, who
had then surrogated the said James Walteri to these rights; but he
had recently been provided to the archdeaconry of Teviotdale, a
dignity worth ^100 sterling of silver, and on his peaceful assecution
to the said dignity he was held to demit Magnacaveris which is now
granted as above to the abbot and convent.

To the archdeacon of Glasgow. Mandate to collate John Were,
rector of the parish church of Lyne, Glasgow diocese, b.dec.,
student of canon law at Paris, priest, kinsman of Robert, late king
of Scots, and of Sir Robert, governor of Scotland, to an annual
pension of -£10 sterling from the fruits and emoluments of the
monastery of Melrose, payable twice yearly at Edinburgh, on the
feasts of St Martin and Pentecost, following the peaceful possession
by the monastery of the parish church of Magnacaveris, Glasgow
diocese, provided to them after a dispute over it between the
monastery and James Walteri, archdeacon of Teviotdale [as in Reg
Aven 329, 299V-300V, 414-15, above pp 174, 172].

Andrews diocese, d.u.j., Indult for William, recently dispensed to
hold the said parish church along with the archdeaconry of Lothian
which was described as being a dignity without cure but which
William fears may have cure, to hold the parish church along with
the archdeaconry even if it does have cure.
