To the official of Sodor. Mandate to summon and examine Robert
Michaeli, rector of the parish church of St Brigid in Aran, Sodor
diocese, value not exceeding -£12 sterling to a non-resident, on
charges brought against him by Duncan Beani, clerk, said diocese;
and if the charges are proven Robert is to be deprived of the church
to which Duncan is then to be collated, notwithstanding his defect
of birth as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, from which
he has recently been dispensed to be promoted to all holy orders
and to hold a benefice, even if with cure.

To the official of Sodor. Mandate to examine Robert Michaeli,
rector of the parish church of St Brigid in Aran, Sodor diocese, on
a charge brought by Duncan Beani, clerk, same diocese, to the
effect that Robert, although suspended by ordinary authority on
account of perjury and other excesses, had presumed to celebrate
mass; and if this charge is proven Robert is to be deprived of the
said church.

To the archdeacon of St Andrews and the officials of Dunkeld and
Brechin. Mandate to confirm John Knight, priest, St Andrews
diocese, in possession of the parish church of Ferrin,1 said diocese
[sic] , value not exceeding 30 merks sterling to a non-resident, vacant
by the death outside the curia of John Gay, late rector. On John’s
death, John Knight had claimed the said parish church within the
lawful time by virtue of papal letters reserving him a benefice, with
or without cure, in the gift of the bishop, dean and chapter of
Dunkeld, given at the curia under the seal of the late Ferdinand,
cardinal priest of the basilica of the Twelve Apostles at Rome, and
he had peacefully possessed it; but he had later doubted the validity
of this, as in the said letters of reservation he is referred to as being
