To the dean of Brechin. Mandate to collate John de Lychtone,
clerk St Andrews diocese, kinsman of William, bishop of Aberdeen,
to the parish church of Fordon, St Andrews diocese, value not
exceeding 20 merks sterling to a non-resident, vacant by the death
outside the curia of Gilbert Knight, late vicar; notwithstanding
John’s defect of birth as the son of an unmarried man and an un¬
married woman from which he was recently dispensed to be pro¬
moted to all holy orders and to hold a benefice even if with cure.

To the bishop of Aberdeen. Mandate to confirm William Lang,
canon of Aberdeen, in possession of a canonry of Moray and the
prebend of Spyny, value not exceeding 20 merks sterling, vacant
by the death outside the curia of the late William de Chesholm, as
he had doubted the validity of his provision by ordinary authority
by William, bishop of Moray, to whom the provision had pertained
from ancient custom, even if William de Chesholm had owed
certain fruits and profits to the papal sub-collector and the canonry
and prebend was thus specially reserved to papal provision, and not¬
withstanding that he is known to hold a canonry and prebend of
Aberdeen, the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Fynyn,
and the hospital of Rathven, Aberdeen diocese.
