Mathew had claimed the right to visit Mathlyn which he asserted
was not a pendicle of Melrose, and he had warned the abbot and
convent of his intention of carrying out the visitation under pain
of interdict. David and the convent had pleaded their exemption in
the presence of the bishop but he denied the exemption and pro¬
ceeded with his warnings; and so lest the bishop should carry out
the visitation and in this way place other privileges and exemptions
in danger, the abbot and convent had appealed to the pope and so
this mandate is granted.

the curia. Mandate to summon John Knight and Alexander de
Bonkil and settle a dispute between them over the parish church of
Ferryn, Dunkeld diocese, vacant by the death of John Gray, late
rector, which John Knight had claimed by virtue of papal letters
of provision, and to which Alexander had been collated by ordinary
authority by Robert, bishop of Dunkeld, and which he unlawfully
detains receiving its fruits to the prejudice of the said John Knight.

the curia. Mandate to summon Gaufrid de Arbroath and William
Lang and settle a dispute between them over a canonry of Moray
and the prebend of Spyny, vacant by the death of William de
Cheseholm, which Gaufrid had claimed within the lawful time by
virtue of papal letters of provision, and to which William Lang
had been provided by ordinary authority by William, bishop of
Moray, and which he unlawfully detains receiving its fruits and
revenues to the prejudice of Gaufrid.
