To the official of Aberdeen. Mandate to collate John Gray,
perpetual chaplain in the church of Ross, priest to the perpetual
vicarage of the parish church of Thayne, Ross diocese, value not
exceeding 10 merks sterling, vacant by the death outside the curia
of William de Kyrbeyok, late vicar, or vacant by the free resignation
outside the curia of William, or in any other way, even if it is
reserved to papal provision; notwithstanding John’s defect of birth
as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, from which he
had been dispensed to be promoted to all holy orders and to hold
a benefice even if with cure, by virtue of which he had become a
priest and had obtained the said perpetual chaplaincy, which he is
dispensed to retain with the parish church.3
