trench mcrtar on 10th September, 1915. Aged 27 years.
At the outbreak of war Private Maclean was employed in
the draughting office of a shipbuilding firm on the Clyde,
with whom he had served his apprenticeship as an engineer.
Before going to Glasgow he had been assistant for two
or three years with Mr Alex. Macdonald, C.E., Burgh
Engineer, Stornoway.
ANGUS PATERSON, Private, 2nd Seaforth High-
landers ; son of Mr Kenneth Paterson, 5 Upper Barvas ;
killed in action in France on 15th September, 1915. Aged
IT years. His brother, Donald, served as a signaller m
the Ross Mountain Battery at the Dardanelles, and was
wounded while carrying the telephone wire to the firing
line, and will probably be lame for life. He is meantime
m hospital at Campden, Gloucestershire.
ROBERT Macdonald, Warrant Officer, Royal Navy ;
eldest son of Mr John Macdonald, New Street ; to his keen
regret was not able to be on active service in the war. As
the result of an attack of malaria he was invalided home
from Mexico, and on the passage contracted a chill, which
terminated fatally at Bursledon, near Southampton, on 16th
September, 1915. He was 39 years of age, and had been
over 21 years in the Navy.
WILLIAM MACLEOD, Royal Naval Reservist; son of
Mr Norman Macleod, 1-1 Sheshader ; drowned when H.M.
trawler " Lydian " was sunk by a mine off Ramsgate on
18th September, 1915. Aged 23 years. His brothers,
Donald, Alick, and Hector, are serving as Royal Naval
Reservists on H.M. ships. No less than nine men from
Croft No. 14, Sheshader, w r ere engaged in the national ser-
vice, either afloat or ashore, and of these William Macleod
was the second to fall. The first was Private Kenneth
Macleod, 2nd Seaforth Highlanders, who was killed at
Hill 60 on 25th April.
