on 27th August, 1915. Aged 40 years. Piper Macdonald
had served 12 years with the Seaforths, and was through
Lord Kitchener's campaign for the reconquest of the
Sudan, for which he held the war medals and clasps. At
the outbreak of war in August, 1914, he was employed in
the Tramway Department of the Glasgow Corporation,
and at once re-enlisted in his old regiment. Mr Mac-
donald, who is now over 91 years of age, has another son
serving in the Royal Naval Reserve.
ANGUS MACKAY, Private, 2nd Seaforth Highlanders ;
son of Mr Murdo Mackay, 4 Kirivick, Carloway; gas
poisoned at La Bassee on 9th May, and died in hospital at
Oxford on 29th August, 1915. Aged 22 years. Private
Mackay had gone to the front very early in the war, and
had escaped without injury until poisoned.
SEPTEMBER, 1915.
JOHN Campbell, Royal Naval Reservist ; son of Mr
Donald Campbell, 26 Lower Bayble ; died in Hasler Hos-
pital, Gosport, on 5th September, 1915. Aged 34 years.
John MACLEOD, Gunner, Ross Mountain Battery ; son
of Mr Murdo Macleod, 18 Aignish, Stornoway ; died in
hospital on 9th September, 1915, as the result of wounds
received in action on 8th August, 1915. Aged 22 years.
Gunner Macleod took part with a section of the Battery
in the landing at Suvla Bay. He was struck by a shell,
which blew off one of his legs beneath the knee. The
same shell had previously struck Driver Norman Campbell,
Aird, on the hip and side, inflicting injuries which ter-
minated fatally. Gunner Macleod was a tailor to trade,
and at the outbreak of war was in the employment of Mr
Malcolm Macarthur, Kenneth Street.
Donald Lachlan Maclean, Private, 7th Cameron
Highlanders ; son of the late Mr Donald Maclean, baker,
and Mrs Mackmnon, 8 Newton Street, Stornoway; killed
with four others through the bursting in their midst of a
