IN MEMORIAM.
In December 19 14 Garbutt received a com-
mission in the
R.A.M.C, and served
for a few months at
Preston and St. Omer
Military Hospitals.
He wished, however,
to get to the fighting
line and became at-
tached to the King's
Own Scottish Border-
ers. Only ten days
after joining the regi-
ment, on 1 December
1 9 1 5, he was killed by
a shell while on duty.
MacDONALD, DONALD RODERICK :
Lance-Corporal, Lovat's Scouts ;

Public School. He
matriculated in Agri-
m --^W culture in 1 9 1 1 with

ally studying Forestry
subjects.
He joined the 1st
Lovat's Scouts on the
outbreak of war, pro-
ceeded to Gallipoli in September 1915, and died
of wounds received in action at Suvla Bay on
5 December 1915.
SLORACH, ALEXANDER: Lance-
Corpora 1, Gordon Highlanders;
son of George Slorach, police superintendent ;
born Banff, 15 December 1894; educated
Banff Academy; student in Arts. 1912-14.
In the spring of 19 14 he joined the Univer-
sity Company of the 4th Gordons and went
to camp with his unit at Tain that year. He
was mobilized on the outbreak of war and
was trained at Bedford. There he became a
specialist, was attached to the Signal Section,
and went to France in that capacity in February
19 1 5. He served with the Battalion till 25
he was accidentally
December 1 9 1 5 when
wounded near Ypres,
by the bursting of an
unexploded e n e m y
shell which was being
examined in his neigh-
bourhood, and died
next day, 26 December
1915. At the time he
was due to join the
6th Gordons, where
he had just received
commissioned rank on
the recommendation
of his CO.
MOODY, DOUGLAS WHIMSTER
KEILLER: Surgeon, Royal Navy;
son of William J.
Moody ; born D u ni-
fties, 5 April 1873 ; |
graduated M.B., 1900 ;
M.D., 1902. After
graduation Moody
acted as House Surgeon
a t Peterborough In-
firmary, then as Anses-
t h e t i s t and Second
House Surgeon at Ad-
denbrooke's Hospital,
Cambridge, and later
was for some time a
Medical Officer on board P. & O. liners. He
was the author of several works — amongst
others " A Critical Treatise on Beri-beri," and
" Beriberi among the Lascar Crews on Board
Ship " — and contributed other valuable works
to the " British Medical Journal," and the
" Lancet ".
Coming of a fighting ancestry — his great-
grandfather fought at Lisbon and Coruna under
Sir John Moore — Moody offered himself for
service at the beginning of the war. He acted
as Surgeon at Haslar Naval Hospital until Sep-
tember 1 91 5, when he was commissioned in
the R.N. and posted to H.M. Cruiser "Natal".
His service, however, only lasted a few months
as he lost his life on the " Natal " when she
was destroyed by an explosion in harbour at
Invergordon on 30 December 191 5.
