Distinguished Service Order.
M'Donald, Major John Hinwood, M.C. Gaz. 31/1/19.
On the 31st August, 1918, during- the attack on Mont St. Quentin, he
advanced alone against an enemy machine gun nest, silencing two guns
which were causing casualties and capturing the crews. On arrival at the
objective, he rapidly reorganised and consolidated, reconnoitring the whole
battalion front under heavy fire. Later he personally directed a withdrawal
in a most skilful manner and under very severe enemy fire, establishing
himself in an admirable position with few casualties. Throughout he
showed conspicuous gallantry and powers of leadership.
Military Cross.
Donald, Lieutenant William. 16th Battalion. Gaz. 14/2/19.
For gallant conduct and devotion to duty as signal officer during an
attack made on Le Vergieur, North West of St. Quentin, on September
18th, 1918. On hearing that an important line had been cut, he went
with a runner to the scene of the trouble and repaired the line. This
necessitated him going through an enemy barrage and guiding his way in
unknown country in pitch black darkness.
Donaldson, Lieutenant George Shirley. Gaz. 24/9/18
M'Coll, Captain John Thomas. Gaz. 11/1/16.
M'Donald, Lieutenant Cecil Jack. Gaz. 20/9/18.
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This officer led the
platoon of which he was in command in an operation against the enemy's
position, with great gallantry and skill, capturing his objective and holding
it against five counter attacks. When the officer commanding the other
attacking platoon was wounded, he took command of both platoons and
organised the defence. It was mainly owing to his courage and determined
leadership that the position was held against all the attacks of the enemy.
M'Donald, Captain John Hinwood. Gaz. 15/6/17.
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He led his company in
the most gallant manner and was largely responsible for the success of the
operation. He set a fine example to his men.
M'Donald, Lieutenant John Wilson. Gaz. 17/4/17.
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during a raid on the
enemy's trenches. In spite of intense fire he made repeated attempts to
enter the enemy's trenches and at last succeeded in forcing an entry at
another point. He had previously done fine work.
M'Donald, Captain Keith Gordon. Gaz. 25/5/17.
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On his own initiative he
attacked and captured a farm which had been taken by the enemy, thereby
saving a critical situation. He has on many previous occasions done fine
work.
M' Intyre, Lieutenant (T. /Captain) Gilbert Langdon. 40th Battalion. Gaz. 31/1/19.
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at Clery on 29th/30th
August, 1918. His company met with stiff opposition, several strong points
were rushed, garrisons and machine guns being captured. Out of the
main post the assaulting troops captured the Commandant of Clery with
59 prisoners and two machine guns. He was always in the thick of the
fighting.
