424 RENFREWSHIRE.
Lord Seton, by whom he had other five children, beside those named
on the monument. He converted St. Mirin's Chapel into a burial-
place for the use of his family. In the aisle a vault was con-
structed for the reception of his remains. His descendants, the
members of the noble family of Abercorn, also interred in the vault.
When the vault was opened a few years ago, consequent on the
competition between the late Duke of Hamilton and the present
Duke of Abercorn to the Dukedom of Chatelherault, the plates on
the coffins of the Earls of Abercorn were found to bear the French
title of Duke of Chatelherault.
In the chancel of the abbey a monument thus celebrates
Mrs. Marion Montgomerie, relict of Patrick Peebles, Provost of

Thomas Inglis inherited froin his ancestors several properties in
Paisley; and on the 31st May, 1578, he and his first wife, Isobel
Muir, purchased the lands of Corsflat, adjoining the abbey garden.
In 1612 he granted his property situated at the West Port of Paisley
for an hospital for the maintenance of " sax puir men." The Town
Council, on 30th April of that year, ordained that the Chapel of
Saint Eocque, in Broomlands, of Paisley, should be taken down,
and " the staines timmer and sclates " applied in the erection of
the hospital or almshouse. In 1724 the hospital was rebuilt; it
was again taken down in 1808. On the front wall was the following
inscription : —
" He that has pitie on the pvir
Of grace and mercie sal be svir
Qvha gives the pvir to God he lends
And God agane mair Rrace him sends.'"
