POLITICS AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS: PACIFISM
Object: To promote the progress of all the races and nations of the Pacific. The
Union, in collaboration with the Chambers of Commerce and various educational bodies,
endeavours to create a better understanding; it organises conferences of delegates of the
nations of the Pacific for the discussion of the best methods to be adopted in each of
these countries; it seeks to establish and maintain, in Hawaii and in the other countries
of the Pacific; bureaux to furnish information and instruction on questions affecting the
peoples of the Pacific.
Members : Any person residing in one of the countries of the Pacific, or interested
in pan-Pacific scientific research, history and development, and in the mutual rappro¬
chement of those countries. Affiliated organisations exist in the following countries :
Australia, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Hawaii, India, Japan, Java, New Zealand,
Philippines, Siam. The Pan-American Union is also a member.

of the Pacific.
Historical Facts : The first Pan-Pacific Scientific Conference was held at Honolulu
in 1920; the following Scientific Conferences were held in Australia, 1923> Jp-PaI1* I92b,
Java, 1929, and Canada, 1933. The first Education Conference of the Pacific countries
was held in 1921 at Honolulu, and subsequent Education Conferences at San Francisco
in 1923 and Honolulu in 1932. An official Education Conference, in which the Union
participated, took place at Honolulu in 1927- The first Press Conference was held at
Honolulu in 1921, and the first Trade Conference at Honolulu in 1922. The first Pan-
Pacific Conference for the Conservation of Sources of Food Supply was held at Honolulu
in 1924, and a Fishery Conference also at Honolulu in 1929. The Pan-Pacific Women s
Conferences were held at Honolulu in 1928, 193° and I934- The next will be held in 1937-

OF FORCES MAKING FOR PEACE.

Foundation: June 7th, 1927.
Object: The Committee endeavours : (a) to organise propaganda campaigns and
such joint demonstrations as circumstances dictate ; (6) to secure, by continuous col¬
laboration, the consolidation and perfecting of the League of Nations ; (c) to recommend
to its member organisations the study of problems falling within their competence the
international importance of which has been recognised; {d) to seek means of creating
an international spirit, particularly through the Press and through education at all stages.
Members : Membership of the International Committee for the Co-ordination of
Forces making for Peace is open to the various organisations whose principal or partial
