78.  Major Fisher testifies to the good work done by Assistant Surgeon
Daljang Singh Khanka, M.B., House Surgeon, Mayo Hospital, Jaipur. A good
deal of the well deserved reputation for high efficiency of the Mayo Hospital
is due to his long and unremitting zealous work in this institution.

The following special treatments were reported:—

79.  Major C. M. Goodbody, I.M.S., Principal Medical Officer, Bikaner
State:—

80.  Salvarson has been used in 7 patients. The method used was intra-
muscular injection into the gluteus maximus. In some cases the result was
very striking with .06 grm. All improved but some relapsed necessitating a
second dose. No ill effects were noted.

81.   Van Pirquet's test has proved most unsatisfactory, a positive reaction
being obtained in only one case (a child) though the tubercle bacillus has been
frequently demonstrated in the sputum.

82.   Chinosol has been used in the treatment of 7 cases of Guineaworm
with satisfactory results.

83.  Major J. W. Watson, I.M.S., then Agency Surgeon, Alwar, has noted
the following interesting cases in his report:—

84.   Tetanus, 5 cases treated during the year, all recovered. Treatment—
injection of Anti-Tetanic Serum and Carbolic Acid. In only one were any
symptoms of carbolic acid poisoning (albuminuria and desquamation) noted.

85.   Salvarson was used for the first time this year with very good results.
A man with a peculiar tic of the neck and face, not typical spasmodic torti-
collis, who gave a history of syphilis, was completely cured.

86.  Contrary to any expectations excellent results in tertiary syphilis
were obtained.

87.  The method used was the intra-muscular, one-third of the contents of
one tube (0.06 grm.) was injected every week for three weeks.

                              STATEMENTS H AND J.

Financial Statements.

88.  Statement H shows the income and expenditure of the Government
dispensaries and hospitals and the expenditure only on those in the Native
States.

89.  The total income of hospitals and dispensaries in Ajmer-Merwara was
R19,726 as compared with R20,495 in 1910; this decrease is due to the fact
that the annual contributions were not paid by the Raja of Pisangan and the
Thakur of Deolia and subscriptions from Natives fell from R4,857 in 1910 to
R2,520. No subscription was paid by European gentlemen during the year
under report. The invested capital of the dispensaries shows no alterations.

90.  In Ajmer-Merwara the total expenditure rose from R15,866 in 1910 to
R15,927, this shows a little variation in the cost of establishment (R7,956 against
R7,411 in 1910). Diet charges rose from R861 in 1910 to R991 in 1911
and expenditure on buildings and repairs rose from R1,296 in 1910 to R1,305
in 1911, but the cost of medicines fell from R3,562 in 1910 to R3,420 in 1911
and of miscellaneous charges from R2,736 in 1910 to R2,255 in 1911.
