Each vaccinator vaccinated on an average 1,472 persons during the
year under review as against 1,400 in the preceding year. The ratio of
persons successfully vaccinated by the district staff was 26.68 per mille of
the population as compared with 25.57 in 1923-24.

It is gratifying to note that, like the preceding year, there was an
increase under all heads during the year under report.

Successful primary
vaccinations in differ-
ent districts.
(Statement I.)

7. In 37 out of 48 districts the number of successful primary vaccina-
tions performed in 1924-25 was in excess of that
performed during the preceding year. Of these,
Gorakhpur stood first with an increase of 4,925,
followed by Azamgarh with 3,944, Farrukhabad
with 3,853, Meerut with 3,791, Garhwal with 3,711,
Bara Banki with 2,806, Allahabad with 2,739, Moradabad with 2,725, Agra
with 2,669 and Etah with 2,365. Of the eleven districts showing a
decrease the most conspicuous were Sultanpur (3,251), Jaunpur (2,611),
Sitapur (2,264), Kheri (1,203) and Basti (950). The causes of decrease in
these districts were—

Sultanpur—Slackness of the vaccination staff and want of proper
help.
Jaunpur—Slackness of the vaccination staff.
Sitapur—Reduction in the number of vaccinators and prevalence of
plague in the district.
Kheri—Defective registration giving decrease in the number of births.
Reduction of four vaccinators, deputation of six vaccinators to
Chaiti fair and washing away of some villages owing to floods,
Basti.—Low birth-rate and prevalence of malaria.

Successful vaccina-
tion and degree of pro-
tection afforded.
(Statement I.)

8. During the year under review the number of persons successfully
vaccinated per mille of the population was 26.68
against 25.57 in the preceding year. Among the
best protected districts Almora, Garhwal and Ha-
mirpur retained their positions of the last year as
first, second and third on the list with ratios of 52.35,
44.43 and 35.46, respectively. Then in order came Naini Tal, Jhansi and
Saharanpur giving ratios of 35.21, 35.17 and 35.01, respectively. The
districts showing the least protection were Rae Bareli (15.83), Ghazipur
(17.07), Partabgarh (19.53), Bara Banki (19.70), Gonda (20.45) and
Azamgarh (20.65).

Vaccination in pro-
portion to births and
according to age.

9. In 1924-25 the percentage of successful primary vaccinations in pro-
portion to births showed an increase under all heads
as compared with the preceding year, the ratios for
the two years being 51.66 and 49.57 in the case of
children under one year, 20.39 and 17.43 in the
case of children over one and under six years, and 74.26 and 68.95 for all
periods, respectively. An examination of the figures of the different
ranges shows that 57.58 children under one year of age were successfully
vaccinated per 100 births during the year under report in the first range,
45.09 in the second range, 59.62 in the third range and 43.52 in the fourth
range against 56.17, 41.15, 55.68 and 44.63, respectively, in the preceding
year. This year the third range shows the best protection in comparison
with the other ranges.
