23.  In course of his tours in the interior, the Assistant
Director visited 285 villages and 11 field veterinary dispen-
saries, supervised the work of goat virus inoculations in
Cuttack, Puri and Angul, checked the general work of the
subordinate staff and made personal enquiries into an anthrax
outbreak among the Mounted Military Police horses at
Jamshedpur and gave necessary instructions.

He also attended a meeting of the Divisional Develop-
ment Board at Balasore and read a paper on active immunisa-
tion of cattle against rinderpest by the goat virus alone method,
besides delivering other lectures in villages on the utility of
the department, as well as on goat tissue virus inoculation.

24.  Babu Nilmoni Chattarji acted as a member of the
Board of Examiners at the annual and diploma examinations
of the Bengal Veterinary College at Belgachia (Calcutta).

25.  He was on tour for 121 days and travelled 4,663 miles
by road, in addition to the journeys made by rail.

26.  Mr L. Sahai, M.SC., M.R.C.V.S., the (Veterinary)
Disease Investigation Officer, Bihar and Orissa, held his post
throughout the year, thus completing the 3rd year of his
appointment. During the period he spent 166 days on tour
and travelled 7,001 miles by road, in addition to the journeys
performed by rail.

27.  While on tour, besides investigation, Mr. Sahai per-
formed inoculations against rinderpest by goat tissue virus
method in extension of the work done by him during the
previous year, and carried out some very important experi-
ments in that connection. He also attended such outbreaks
of special interest as that of a fluke disease, parasitic infesta-
tion, Johne's disease, filaria hæmorrhagica and contagious
otorrhæa in buffaloes, an outbreak of suspected plant poisoning
among horses, fowl diseases, and the outbreak of anthrax
among the Mounted Military Police horses at Jamshedpur.
He visited the Sonepur and Singheswarasthan fairs in connec-
tion with investigation of diseases. When at headquarters,
Mr. Sahai, besides office routine, worked in the laboratory
examining and studying the material brought from the interior.
He also served as an examiner in the subjects of Pathology and
Bacteriology and Meat and Milk Inspection at the annual and
diploma examinations of the Bihar and Orissa Veterinary
College.
