                                    North Bihar Range.

15.  Special Officer (now Deputy Director) Mr. M. I.
Malik, M.R.C.V.S., held charge of the Range throughout the
year. During the period, he inspected 37 veterinary hospitals
and dispensaries out of 43, and 22 field veterinary dispensaries
out of 57 in the range. He also visited Pusa and Sipaya
Farm, as well as the important horse and cattle fairs and
shows.

16. Mr. Malik acted as an examiner at the annual and
diploma examinations of the Bihar and Orissa Veterinary
College, and at the professional examination of the subordinate
veterinary officers at Patna.

17. Besides the above, Mr. Malik attended various other
official or semi-official functions, such as the meeting of the
Co-operative Federation Congress held at Chapra, a general
meeting of the S. P. C. A., acting as a judge at the show, a
meeting of the Bihar and Orissa Veterinary Association at
which he was elected its President, the rural welfare training
camp at Silaut, the opening ceremony of the Industrial
Exhibition by the Hon'ble Minister of Education, and the
show of the Purnea City Mela where he acted as a judge. He
was also a presiding officer at a polling for election of
members to the Legislative Assembly. During the severe
floods of the Ganges when the question of feeding the affected
cattle became very acute, Mr. Malik helped in the arrangements
made by the district authorities for the supply and despatch
of fodder to Bihpur. Narainpur, Lattipur, Mohiuddinnagar,
Hajipur and Sonepur. The Red Cross Society's Depot which
was started after the earthquake, continued to work under
his charge for some time early in the year.

He was on tour for 179 days and travelled 2,683 miles by
road in addition to the journeys by rail.

                                    Central Range.

18. Special Officer Mr. S. K. Sen, M.R.C.V.S., held charge
of the Range under the direct supervision of the Director.

During the year, he inspected all the veterinary hospitals
and dispensaries of the Range numbering 50, 43 field veterinary
dispensaries and the offices of all the 5 circle veterinary inspec-
tors. In course of his tour, he further visited various police-
stations, and 385 villages where he made enquiries into the
existence of cattle disease and verified the work of the
subordinate staff, inspected the Mounted Military Police horses
twice at Arrah, the Government ponies at the Police Training
College, Hazaribagh, the cattle at the Central Jails at Buxar,
