Rajputana) for the year 1930-31.
GENERAL ADMINISTRATION.
Mr. J. H. G. Jerrom, I.V.S., remained in charge of the Civil Veterinary
Department, Ajmer-Merwara (British Rajputana), throughout the year under
report with the exception of from 4th April to 2nd November 1930 when
Khan Sahib J. D. Buxy acted for him.
2. Mr. Jerrom inspected the dispensaries at Ajmer and Beawar. He was
on tour in Ajmer-Merwara for 6 days and travelled 1,098 miles by rail as
against 7 days, 1,065 miles by rail and 61 miles by road.
II.—Treatment of Disease.
3. Table II.—Outbreaks of contagious diseases were reported from Ajmer
and Merwara districts and were as under:—
(i) BOVINE CONTAGIOUS DISEASE.
4. Rinderpest.—There were 5 outbreaks reported from Ajmer district,
with 238 attacks and 157 deaths. In the previous year, there were 19 out-
breaks with 1,511 attacks and 647 deaths in the Ajmer and Merwara districts.
5. Foot-and-Mouth disease.—Four outbreaks were reported from the
Ajmer and Merwara districts. Only one animal died out of 476 attacked.
6. Pleuro-Pneumonia.—Five cattle were attacked and all died in the
Merwara district.
7. Rabies.—Only one case of rabies among cattle was reported from the
Ajmer district and the animal died.
(ii) CONTAGIOUS DISEASE AMONG OTHER ANIMALS.
8. Four cases of rabies and 3 of distemper among dogs were reported
during the year and all died or were destroyed.
(iii) PREVENTIVE INOCULATIONS.
9. Table III.—Seven hundred and seventy-eight heads of cattle were
incoulated with anti-rinderpest serum in 5 outbreaks in the Ajmer district.
No deaths occurred among the inoculated animals.
(iv) OTHER DISEASES.
10. Table IV.—The number of villages visited by the Veterinary Assist-
ant Surgeons, Ajmer and Beawar, was 134 against 137 in the previous year.
They treated 250 animals for contagious and 59 for non-contagious diseases
as against 64 animals for contagious and 19 for non-contagious diseases in the
previous year.
