GENERAL ADMINISTRATION.
Mr. J. H. G. Jerrom, I.V.S., remained in charge of the Civil Veteri-
nary Department, Ajmer-Merwara (British Rajputana), throughout the
year under report. He inspected the Veterinary Dispensaries at Ajmer
and Beawar and attended an outbreak of Surra among equines at
Masuda in the Ajmer District. He was on tour in Ajmer-Merwara for
7 days and travelled 1,065 miles by rail and 61 miles by road as against
6 days, 1,065 miles by rail and 33 miles by road.
II.—Treatment of Disease.
2. Table II.—Outbreaks of contagious disease were reported from
Ajmer and Merwara districts and were as under:—
(i) EQUINE CONTAGIOUS DISEASE.
3. Surra.—Thirty horses were affected and died or were destroyed in
the Ajmer District under the Glanders and Farcy Act, as against 27
cases and deaths in the Ajmer and Merwara Districts, last year.
4. Strangles.—Three horses were affected and recovered in the
Ajmer District.
(ii) BOVINE CONTAGIOUS DISEASE.
5. Rinderpest.—There were 19 outbreaks of the disease, with
1,511 attacks and 647 deaths in the Ajmer and Merwara Districts as
against four outbreaks, 400 attacks and 163 deaths in the Ajmer
District, last year.
6. Foot-and-Mouth Disease.—There were four outbreaks of the
disease, with 109 attacks and three deaths in the Ajmer and Merwara
Districts.
7. Anthrax.—An outbreak of Anthrax was reported from the Ajmer
District with ten attacks and deaths. The disease was not confirmed as
it had died out when the Veterinary Assistant Surgeon arrived at the
scene of the outbreak.
8. Hœmorrhagic Septicœmia.—The disease was reported from the
Merwara District. Seventy-one animals died of the disease out of
106 attacked.
