To carry on the work of Civil Veterinary Department
effectively in the Frontier Province the following new staff
should be sanctioned:—

         1 Deputy Superintendent.

         3 Veterinary Inspectors.

         4 Veterinary Assistants.

It may be noted that the number of Veterinary
Inspectors originally sanctioned was 5. It was however
reduced to 2 in connection with the retrenchment affected
in 1922 owing to paucity of funds. This shortage of 3
Veterinary Inspectors and of 2 Veterinary Assistants brought
under 'reduction at the closing of Tank and Chaudhwan
Veterinary Hospitals must be made good.

The hospital at Miranshah, Tochi Agency, is closed
since 1919. It should now again be started along with the
Tank and Chaudhwan Hospitals in Dera Ismail Khan
District.

As mentioned in my last report, a new hospital should
be opened at Garhi Habibullah, District Hazara, with the
object of examining cattle coming from Kashmir side
and so prevent the outspread of contagious and infectious
diseases to the Province. The plans and estimates of the
proposed new veterinary hospital at Alizai, Kurram
Agency, have been prepared and approved but the work
of construction remains in abeyance like last year owing to
the paucity of fund.

Patwaris are still slack in promptly reporting the out-
breaks of contagious and infectious diseases to the nearest
veterinary official. The rate of mortality would be reduced
to a great extent if Patwaris did justice to their respon-
sibilities in this connection.

Burdizzo castrators already supplied to certain hospitals
in the Province have been greatly appreciated. In my
opinion one castrator each should be supplied to the
Veterinary Inspectors as well as to all the Veterinary
Assistants.

Slaughtered animals are inspected by a veterinary
official at Dera Ismail Khan and Abbottabad only. This
work should be entrusted to the veterinary local officials
who are the only persons qualified to do it properly.
