| Description | Drawing of the monastery ruins, Dunfermline Abbey, Fife. There are no dates or artists attached to this sheet. This image shows the south wall of the Benedictine monastery, the room behind which was the refectory. English troops sacked the Abbey during the War of Independence in 1303. Robert the Bruce rebuilt it once peace came. These buildings all date from this time. Post-Reformation, the abbey and its possessions became the property of the Crown, the process taking until 1593. This area in particular became the Royal Palace. |

Drawings date mostly from 1781-1792 and 1811-1820. Arranged by county. Some drawings by George Henry Hutton, a professional soldier and amateur antiquary, who compiled the collection. |
