| Description | Part of a memorial inscription in Kilmun Collegiate Church, Argyllshire. George Henry Hutton's note with this drawing reads, 'It is said to have been part of the inscription of the Monument of Sir Duncan Campbell & his wife'. The drawing dates from 5th August 1802, but is unsigned. It is likely, however, that this was one of Hutton's own works. The monument to Sir Duncan Campbell, or the Black Knight of Loch Awe, lay in the vault of Kilmun Collegiate Church, although the fragment drawn here appears to have become separated from the monument and been built into the new parish church of Kilmun. The memorial to Campbell, who founded Kilmun Collegiate Church in 1442, depicts him in full armour lying by the side of his wife. |
