254 FAMILY AND DOMESTIC LETTEES. [1634-35.
James second Earl of Abercoene to Sir John Maxwell of Pollok,
20th April 1634.
250. Eight worshipfuHe and loving frind, I am asshamed that I have not yet sent
you the tak from my Lord Douk, which has not bin my fait, bot sine it has
bin so long of cummg, I will nou bring it horn my serf. The ship with my
goodes is parted from this, and I have sent horn this bearar to mit hir, who
knos and has in. wryting all that is in hir, and so sun as I can hear that sho is
cum to Dunbritan, I will, God uilling, begin my jornay from this ; and therfor
I most intreat you to doe me the favour to tak the pains to help my brother to si
the hous hansumlie drest and provyded against my homcuming, as I have sent
horn derections be this bearer ; and if I have forgotten anie t h ing that is
nesessar yet, I intreat you let it be clone. So hoping to si you shortlie, with
my servic remembered to your ladie, I shall ever remaine,

51. Bycht honorable cheiffe, according to my deutie and promeise, as occasion
* ifferit, I could not bot wryt and to geive yow thankis for the kyndnes your
honor hes shawin to my puire breether, quhilk geive either I or they foirgett
wee ar vngrait. I perceave now that that whiche my father refuiset, quhilk
wes to interteyne his bairnes, wes resolvet vpon be him. I am sorie not so
