Leithe. They exspect him clayly from the sonthe. Nor is he not with the Kinge.
The Kinge wes zisternicht in Seatoune. Ther hes not bein in traine with him
all this tyme, bothe Inglische and Scotts, fifteen hundrethe horse, wherofe ane
gritt pairt are Scotts, and mett him in Berwicke, As for my Lorde Duk's
freinds, they are not mynded to make anie schow, because ther wholl companie
will not make out suche ane number as other nobillmen, especiallie Mortoun
and Anguse, hes conveined. So I thinke it shall not be neidfull to yow at this
tyme to come eist, and yee will thinke your selfe weill stayed at home ; for
yee have not one suitt ye could have putt on yow heir — everie man that is of
anie qwalitie goes so ritchlie. My Lord of Airthe is discharged the toune, and
goethe this day to Airthe. They say lykwyse that my Lord Stirlinge hes no
gritt credite ; so that I fear ther be littill done concerninge the purpose yee
know at this time. Ther is no other occurrents as zitt that I can wryte to
yow, bot as the Kinge corns at that tyme, how all goethe I shall acqwaint yow.
So I rest,

Mr. William Maxwell, Advocate, Edinburgh, to Sir John Maxwell
of Pollok, 14th June 1633.
231. Rycht honorable, haveing occasion be accident of this beirer, love and deutie
wold not permit me to neglect the same ; and thairfoir shortlie of quhat is
current zour honour shall hen. Their is some hett contest betuixt the Constable,
Mershall and the toun of Edinburgh, for keiping of the kingis body. The toun
wd be neirest the King's body within the toun, and the Errell of Arroll, Con-
stable, will not suffer. Sua quhat shalbe the determinatioun or event, I shall
heirefter adverteise your honour. Wee heir certainlie that the Pollis ambassa-
