Mr. P[atrick ?] Maxwell, a brother of Mr. William Maxwell, to Sir John
Maxwell of Pollok, 9th October 1629.
208. Eicht honorabill and much respectit freind, my comendatiounes premittit.
Thes ar zour worship to knaw that I haif ressauit zour lettre direct to my
brother, quho in his absence doeth recommend to me the cair of his bussiuess,
and hath sent, conforme thairto, the answeris of zour lettre. Zour worship sail
ressave thairfoir his Maiesties decreittis inprint. I wold haif sent ane vther to
my father, bot than- was not ane vther to be had ; for thair is not any, at the
leist verie few, as zit extant. Bot the mater is all one ; for I knaw the samyne
quhilk I haif sent will be maid commoun to zour worship and my father. I
haif sent lykwayes to zour worship the crynies that falleth vnder the compas of
the Circuit Courtis ; togidder with sum exceptiounes such as I could invent.
Bot if my brother, Maister Williame, had bein in Edinburgh himselff, he
wald haif sent both moe and perschance better ; for he is over the watter with
my lord, his maister : nather do I knaw of his returne as zit. I knaw not of
any novellis be ressone the samyne ar not occurrent. Bot quhen my brother,
Maister Williame, cumeth agane to Edinburgh, I saU not desist to cans him
frequent and adverteis zour worship thairwith, if any be. No more ; bot
haveing my commendatiounes remembrit to zour ladie, to my father and my
mi ither, committing zow to the protectioun of the Almichtie, I rest,
Zoures to power,
