John Lord Maxwell to Sir John Maxwell, younger of Pollok,
2d March 1573.
133. Traist freind, eftir my hartlie commendatiouns. Ze sail wnderstand that my
servand, Eobene Hall, hes bene at me, and hes schawin me the copy of ane
arristment vpon his guddis and geir ; quhairin is mentionat that zour servand,
Thomas Lurk, hes gottin the gyft of his escheit, quhairof I merwell mekle that
ze quhom to and zour father hes bene gydar and gouernour to my servandis,
that suld schaw zour self sa vnthankfull as to seik ony of thame to sic extre-
mitie, and to that tiling that can nocht stand with my honour. Quhairfor I
will desyre zow to leif of sic thingis fra farther preceding quhill zour meitting
and myne, as ze will haif plesour of me. Sa I commit zow to God. Off Drum-
freis, the secound daye of Marche 1573.

me declaringe that thair is ane soone of Jonat Maxwellis, zour bastarde sister,
deid, and scho hes ane dochter zit on lyue, that sowld succeid to ane halfe
merk land in Gowane, possest be zour sister, now present ; desyringe me to
aduerteis zow the maner of the procedinge of that lande, and to stope all ferder
procedingis in that as I may. For ansuer, zour mastership sail wit that thair
is ane Gibsoune, fader brother to the boy, zour sister soone, that hes cum to my
Lorde of Glasgw and me, and hes obtenit ane rentall of thay landis, reserwand
