5. Gustavus Aird, J. P., born 6th May, 1752, married 24th
June, 1797, Ann, eldest daughter of John Grant, farmer of
Polnical, parish of Kilmuir-Easter, by his wife Margaret,
daughter of the Rev. George Grant, minister of Kirkmichael,
county Banff, from 1725 to 1772/ Margaret Grant's mother was
Ann, daughter of the Rev. James Chapman, minister successivelv
of Cawdor and of Cromdale from 1699 to 1737, by Ann, daughter
of Cuthbert of Castlehill, who fought under Gustavus Adolphus,
and was present at the battle of Lutzen in 1633. John Grant,,
farmer of Polnical, was son of Gregor Grant, farmer of Polnical,
and grandson of William Grant of Ardoch, now called Pointzfield,
parish of Resolis, by his second wife, Kate Mackenzie. The
contract of marriage of William Grant of Ardoch and Kate
Mackenzie was dated 23rd November, 1680. She was daughter
of Colin Mackenzie, II. of Kincraig (who married Agnes, daughter
of Duncan Bayne of Delny), and grand-daughter of Colin Mac-
kenzie, I. of Kincraig. William Grant of Ardoch was son of John
Grant of Moyness, and grandson of James Grant of Logie, some-
times called of Ardneidlie and of Edenhill (who died before 1623),
and his wife Katherine, daughter of William Rose of Kilravock.
James Grant of Logie was a younger son of Duncan Grant of
Freuchie, or Grant, and grandson of John Grant of Freuchie, or
Grant, and his wife, Lady Marjory Stewart, daughter of John,
3rd Earl of Athol, and grand-daughter of John, 2nd Earl of
Athol, and Lady Mary Campbell. Gustavus Aird died at Heath-
field 13th May, 1835. Ann Grant (Mrs G. Aird) died 24th
March, 1859, aged 88. Issue— r
