as sir Thomas of Baldukie, of Auldbar, master and afterwards
tutor of Glamis, and treasurer of Scotland.

On the same date, viz. — 28 april 1567, lord Glammis resigned the lands of
the thanage of Glammis, the barony and thanage of Tannades in the sheriffdom
of Forfar ; the lands and barony of Balhelwyis, tenandry of Ardendracht and
Collistoun, the lands of Courtestoun, and Drumgowane in the sheriffdom of
Aberdeen ; and the lands and barony of Langforgund, and lands and barony of
Inchesture in the sheriffdom of Perth. The destination in the crown charter
following on the resignation is to the above series of heirs. 2 As each heir
succeeded he was desired to assume the honours of the house of Glamis.
The institute and the first three series of substitutes in the two entails were
all descended from Patrick, first lord Glamis, and their relationship was as
follows : —

In 1568 John appears to have been in the occupation of Balmucatie,
as in that year he pays James, lord Ogilvie, three score merks for the teind
sheaves of these lands.3 In 1569 an attempt was made to bring to a termina-
