the name of Hamilton. He married, 16th September 1824, Georgina,
daughter of Robert Markham, Archdeacon of York, and had : —
(«) George (No. 611).
(b) Major Robert Baillie-Hamilton, born 8th October 1828;
died 5th September 1891. He married, 18th July 1861,
Mary, daughter of Sir John Pringle, Bt.
(c) Clifton Baillie, born 5th March 1831 ; died 3rd April 1857.
(d) Henry Baillie-Hamilton of Lennel, born 20th August 1832 ;
died 20th November 1895. He married, 17th October
1872, Harriet Scott, daughter of Henry, Lord Polwarth,
and had daughters only.
(e) Percy Baillie, died in infancy 1835.
(/) Rev. Arthur Charles Baillie-Hamilton, born 16th February
1838. Married, 1866, Alice, daughter of Sir David
Baird, Bt., and has a daughter.
(611) George, eleventh Earl of Haddington, born 26th July 1827. Married,
17th October 1854, Helen, daughter of Sir John Warrender, Bt. of Loch-
end, and heiress of Richard Pepper Arden, Lord Alvanley. In 1858
Lord Haddington added the name of Arden to those of Baillie-Hamilton.
They had issue : —
(a) George (No. 612).
(b) Richard Baillie-Hamilton-Arden, born 28th August 1858;
died 13th August 1881.
(c) Henry Robert Baillie-Hamilton-Arden, born 4th October
1862.
£11*111*3. — First and Fourth, Gules, three cross crosslets fitchy or, a chief of the
last (Arden). Second, Quarterly : 1 and 4. Gules, on a chevron between
three cinquefoils argent a buckle azure between two ermine spots proper, all
within a bordure or charged with eight thistles vert (Hamilton of Byres).
2 and 3. Argent, a fess wavy between three roses gules, barbed and seeded
proper (Melrose). Third, Sable, the sun in his glory betwixt nine stars —
three, two, three, and one argent (Baillie). [Plate VIII., fig. 3.] CRESTS :
First, Out of a ducal coronet or a plume of six ostrich feathers, also or
(Arden); Second, Two dexter hands issuing out of clouds, conjoined f ess-
wise, and holding betwixt them a branch of laurel erect, all proper (Hamil-
ton) ; Third, A crescent or (Baillie). SUPPORTERS : Two talbots argent,
collared gules. MOTTOES : "Prcesto et persto " (Hamilton) ; "Major virtus
quam splendor" (Baillie).
(612) GEORGE, Lord Binning, born 24th December 1856. Married, 21st Septem-
ber 1892, Katherine, only child of W. Severin Salting, and has : —
(a) George Baillie-Hamilton-Arden, born 18th September 1894.
(b) Charles William Baillie-Hamilton-Arden, born 22nd May
1900.
(613) Charles Baillie, second son of George Baillie (No. 609), born 3rd November
1804; died 23rd July 1879. He was a Lord of Session as Lord Jervis-
woode. On 27th December 1831 he married Anne Scott, daughter of
Hugh, Lord Polwarth. She died 15th August 1880, leaving: —
(a) George Patrick Baillie, born nth July 1834 ; died s.p.
(614) Rev. John Baillie, Canon of York, fifth son of George Baillie (No. 609),
born 3rd January 18 10; died 7th August 1888. He married, April 1837,
