126 THE HAMILTONS OF INNERWICK
(576) Alexander Hamilton of Innerwick. Fought at Langside for Queen
Mary. He was taken prisoner, condemned to death, but pardoned. He
married Alison, daughter of Bartholomew Home of Simprim. Her Will
recorded 22nd December 1593 (Edinburgh). He was dead March
1573-79-
HrniS on Seal, 1540. — Three cinque/oils, with a buckle at the f ess point (Laing).
They had : —
(577) Sir Alexander Hamilton of Innerwick, who married a daughter of
James Hamilton of Kincavil {House of Hamilton), but Stodart says a
Home of Wedderburn, and had : —
(a) Alexander (No. 578).
(b) Claud (No. 588).
£ulTl0 t c 1565. — Gules, a /ess chequy argent and azure between three cinquefoils
argent, in honour point a round buckle of the second { Workman's MS.).

(578) Sir Alexander Hamilton of Innerwick. Served heir to his grandfather
22nd April 1576. He married, first, Margaret, daughter of Patrick White-
law of that Ilk, whom he divorced, and had : —
(a) Alexander (No. 579).
He married, second, Christian, daughter of Thomas Hamilton of
Priestfield. Her Will recorded as " relict " 30th June 1653 (Edinburgh).
They had a charter of the lands of Ballencrieff 6th June 1593, and another
of the lands of Hoprig 5th December 1599. They had issue : —
{b) James (No. 583).
(c) Thomas Hamilton. Will recorded 14th December 1674
(Edinburgh).
(d) Andrew Hamilton, portioner of Mountouric. Will recorded
2 1st January 1663 (Edinburgh).
(e) Major-General John Hamilton. Will recorded 12th January
1663 (Edinburgh).
HrtTl0 on Seal, 1588. — Parted per cross — in the first quarter a cinquefoil, in the
second another, with base counter compony, in the third another, with chief
counter compony, in the fourth a buckle (Laing). This peculiar arrange-
ment was evidently the origin of the "fess fracted " {see below), c. 1600. — -
Gules, a fess chequy arge?it and azure, fracted, between three cinquefoils of
the second, in middle chief point a round buckle proper {Lindsay II. MS.).

(579) Sir Alexander Hamilton of Fenton, died v.p. about 1604. He married
Elizabeth Ker, daughter of Mark, first Earl of Lothian, and had : —
(580) Sir Alexander Hamilton of Fenton. Served heir to his father 2nd
August 1604. He succeeded his grandfather, and was blown up at
Dunglas 1640. He married Isobel, daughter of Sir George Home of
Manderston, and had : —
(581) Alexander Hamilton of Fenton and Lawfield, killed, with his father,
1640. Married Isabel, daughter of James Shaw of Knockhill, and had : —
{a) Alexander (No. 582).
{b) James Hamilton. Went to France and married a French
lady.
(582) Colonel Alexander Hamilton of Innerwick and Lawfield. Suc-
ceeded his grandfather. He was in the Russian army, and died s.p. (?).
