122 THE HAMILTONS OF CAMBUSKEITH
Some and Sanquhar.
Authority — House of Hamilton.
(562) SIR WILLIAM HAMILTON, second son of Alexander Hamilton (No. 549). He
was a Senator of the College of Justice. His Will recorded 5th April
1565 and 18th January 1575 (Edinburgh). He married Catherine
Kennedy. They had : —
(a) William (No. 563).
(b) Bernard Hamilton, living 1552.
Hnit0 on Seal, 1538. — On a chevron between two cinquefoils in chief and a
crescent in base a rose between two lions combatant {Rutherford Charter,
ex inf. Macdonald). [Plate VII., fig. 7]. On Seal, 1543. — Three cinque-
foils within a Royal tressure (there may be a fess chequy). Crest : A
Q boar) head (Macdonald). In Lindsay's MS., 1542. — Gules, three cinque-
foils pierced ermine within a double tressure flory-counter-flory or. [Plate
II., fig. 13.]
(563) Sir William Hamilton of Sorne and Sanquhar. Will recorded 2nd
December 1592. Summoned for abiding from the Raid of Leith, 14th
March 1571-72 ; member of Assize, 9th February 1584 {Criminal Trials').
He married Janet Campbell. Her Will recorded 28th January 1595-96
(Edinburgh). Their son was : —
(564) William Hamilton of Sorne and Sanquhar. Served heir to his father
15th May 1600.
HtHlS in Pont's MS., 1624 (addition). — Gules, three cinquefoils ermine within
a double tressure or.
Colquhot.
Authority — House of Hamilton.
According to Nisbet, the first of this family was a brother of Sir William
Hamilton (No. 563).
(565) John Hamilton of Colquhot, Peebles, slain about 1591. His Will
recorded 20th January 1592-93 (Edinburgh). He married Bessie,
daughter of Sir William Baillie of Lamington, and had : —
{a) Richard Hamilton, slain, with his father, about 1591.
(b) Jonas (No. 566).
(c) William Hamilton,
(d) John Hamilton. Served heir to his father 5th May 1610.
(566) Jonas Hamilton of Colquhot. Served heir to his father 24th March
1636. He had : —
{a) James (No. 567).
(b) Archibald Hamilton of Wester Horsbrugh. He was ap-
pointed tutor to his niece, Alison Hamilton, daughter
of his brother, Marcus Hamilton, 14th May 1646.
{c) Marcus Hamilton of Netherurd. Left a daughter, Alison
(see above, b).
